New solution for multimedia home platform

ObjectStreamer from Rohde & Schwarz enables MHP applications for all DVB systems

München, Aug 19, 2003 - Rohde & Schwarz has developed a new product that fully complies with the multimedia home platform (MHP) standard: the R&S MHP ObjectStreamer. MHP conformity was tested in collaboration with Advanced Digital Broadcast. The software allows service providers to implement MHP applications for all DVB systems, simply and cost-efficiently. This primarily affects additional services such as interactive TV broadcasts, electronic program guide or multimedia program information. With this new development, Rohde & Schwarz has made a further contribution to the rapid development of digital TV.

The software is used together with the DTV IP Inserter and Generator® R&S DIP010. Newly created MHP applications can thus be implemented in all DVB systems (DVB-T, DVB-C, DVB-S). The advantage of this is that no extensions to the program multiplexer need to be made. Furthermore, the new product can be conveniently integrated into the running system without affecting TV transmission. The free bandwidth in DVB systems can also be used for such MHP services as additional information or games. Enhancement with other IP-based services is possible at any time.
Rohde & Schwarz has successfully tested the MHP ObjectCarousel, whose core component is the R&S MHP ObjectStreamer® as an expansion of the R&S WebCarousel®, in interplay with set-top boxes. Initial customers are already implementing this solution as a cost-efficient platform for MHP services.
