> Topic and Procedure
Abstract of the case study 2008 "Get the Signals"Recently, providing an efficient usage of the radio channel resources has become a major challenge in mobile communications. In this context, the correct frequency and modulation parameters are as important as avoiding interference by electrical installations or illegal transmitters. Spectrum monitoring systems must be able to check the requirements of the communication system and to provide the basis for recovering of the radio channel in case of disturbance, e.g., by allowing the localization of interferences.
In the case study, this topic is considered in a typical scenario. The students are expected to have extensive knowledge in system theory and basic experience in analog communication parts (antennas, wave propagation) as well as in digital signal processing (sampling, filtering).

Preliminary rounds
The preliminary rounds will take place from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The participating students will meet directly at the Rohde & Schwarz office in Singapore, where they will be assigned a study question involving a technical topic (such as mobile radio). Working in teams, they will immediately start to analyze the question and develop a solution. The solution will then be presented before a jury composed of a professor at the university, an engineer from Rohde & Schwarz, and an HR manager. In addition to technical know-how, presentation skills and team management techniques count in the overall assessment.
Time flow of the preliminary round
09:00 a.m. Welcoming remarks and presentation of the procedure
09:10 a.m. Introductions
09:20 a.m. Presentation of Rohde & Schwarz
09:50 a.m. Formation of teams (as necessary)

06:00 p.m. Conclusion of the event
Final round
Rohde & Schwarz will invite the winning teams of the participating universities to a two-day final round in Munich. They will be assigned a study question that deals more thoroughly with the topic presented in the preliminary round. Each team will present its solution in competition with the solutions developed by the winning teams from other universities. Naturally, these eventful days in Munich will be rounded out by an extensive program of peripheral activities.
