More and more sensitive data are handled and stored on a rapidly growing number of personal computers. The user must apply special protection techniques to such data which relate to company-confidential information, information about persons or customers, or private notes. Data of this kind are at a very high risk when transmitted in networks (Internet, telephone line/modem) that in most cases are not protected. Encryption software SafeIT is a cost-efficient tool for the protection of such data.
SafeIT can be integrated into existing Windows applications using the context menu of the Windows interface. The tool offers convenient operation, clear dialogs and ease of configuration. SafeIT can be integrated into e-mail applications (eg Lotus Notes and MS Outlook 2000) by choosing the respective option during the installation process.
Optionally it can be equipped with special encryption algorithms. In addition, a programming interface (SafeIT-API) is available allowing development engineers to integrate SafeIT security mechanisms into their applications.
After the entry of a crypto key, files or whole directories or directory trees can be encrypted using a strong encryption algorithm. The encrypted data can be read only if the correct crypto key is known. Potential attacks are made much more difficult as a special double encryption method was implemented. To save storage capacity, the files are auto-matically compressed by SafeIT prior to encryption. SafeIT guarantees secure transfer and exchange of data even via unreliable data lines and a safe data storage.
The program supports the creation and management of keys. Any number of keys can be created, renamed or deleted via a management register. SafeIT also allows the export of keys into files with the keys being transmitted in electronic form. The key files are encrypted and, after import, decrypted again by SafeIT.
