Universal Protocol Tester R&S CRTU-G
For GSM mobile phone and chipset manufacturers with an eye for new GSM developments such as EDGE and GSM 850, the Universal Protocol Tester R&S CRTU-G provides the features essential for both debugging the GSM software stack, simulating real-life situations such as handover, and recording the results generated.
For test houses, the CRTU-G outputs a pass/fail verdict based on validated test cases, for protocol testing. The R&S CRTU-G is also an integral part of the TS8950 Type Approval test system, demonstrating the compatibility of the new protocol tester for WCDMA.
The platform concept of this Universal Protocol Tester is the re-use of RF components of the production tester CMU. The R&S CRTU-G runs under Windows 2000, is widely backwards compatible with CRTC test cases and supports standards like GSM 400/850/900/1800/1900, GPRS and EGPRS. Support for 2G and 3G handover (GSM/WCDMA) is planned. Application programs for developing scenarios are not covered by test cases.
The Protocol Tester features an extended RF parameters and Multi-Channel Support as well as an open platform for compatibility.
The modulators and demodulators are software-driven and able to generate and receive GMSK and 8PSK signals as used in EDGE systems. The modulation formats are easily modified by software upgrades or further formats added as required.
The GSM specifications forming the basis of the GSM operational software and of the test cases are subject to continuous updating.
