Jack-of-all-trades in a single instrument: the R&S ETL analyzes in real-time
NAB 2007, Las Vegas (Booth C2927) —
The TV analyzer platform is especially suitable for commissioning, installing, and servicing TV transmitters as well as coverage measurements for terrestrial TV and measurements on CATV head stations. With only a single unit, broadcast transmitters or CATV systems can be easily and accurately installed and cost-effectively maintained. The platform's compact and robust design makes it ideal for mobile applications, greatly simplifying the measurement of network coverage.
Both the software- and hardware-based demodulators generally work in realtime making the R&S ETL the only TV analyzer currently in its class that consistently performs BER measurements in realtime and makes complete analyses. Another advantage of realtime demodulators is that demodulated analog video and audio signals as well as digital MPEG transport streams are available for further processing.
The frequency range of the analyzer is from 500 kHz to 3 GHz. Frequencies in the L and S band, which are becoming more and more important, are also covered in addition to the conventional broadcasting frequencies, expanding the range of applications of the R&S ETL considerably. At the time of market launch, the R&S ETL TV analyzer was already configured to analyze internationally common analog TV standards as well as the DVB-T/H and
DVB-C digital standards, and for the first time, the Chinese DMB-T standard (GB20600-2006).
For measuring digital TV signals, the R&S ETL offers a wide range of applications. Constellation diagrams displayed in extremely great detail and at very high speed will be introduced. As an alternative to the constellation diagram, the signal parameters can also be displayed together with the results of the signal analysis in concise tables.
In analog measurements, the TV analyzer provides comprehensive functions for measuring analog vision and sound carriers as standard. The standard video scope function provides further analyses within user-selectable video lines as well. Functions such as C/N, CSO and CTB are specially implemented for the CATV measurement. The R&S ETL can be optionally equipped with a preselection including an additional 75 ohm input.
The wide-range of TV-specific measurements offered by the R&S ETL is complemented by measurements in the spectrum. The R&S ETL includes a full featured spectrum analyzer and tracking generator. Measurements such as shoulder distance in accordance with ETSI TR 101 290, channel and adjacent channel power can thus be performed using one and the same instrument. Special functions such as frequency counter, noise and phase noise markers round out the measurement functions and make the R&S ETL TV analyzer a jack-of-all-trades.
The analyzer can be upgraded modularly at anytime without being opened to meet specific requirements. Additional analog and digital interfaces, a GPIB interface, and a reference oscillator are available as options.
