R&S SLA8000 low-power transmitter for sound broadcasting

Extremely compact DAB broadcast transmitter with high energy efficiency from Rohde & Schwarz

With the R&S SLA8000, Rohde & Schwarz is presenting a DAB transmitter for the low-power range for the first time. Owing to its powers up to 300 W, the transmitter is ideal for closing coverage gaps in entire networks. Its compact design and LSI circuits make the R&S SLA8000 extremely energy efficient.
The R&S SLA8000 has been specially developed for the DAB technology in accordance with the EUREKA 147 and the relevant sub-standards (T-DMB, DAB-IP, DAB+) in the VHF band from 174 MHz to 240 MHz. The transmitter rounds out the product portfolio of DAB transmitters from Rohde & Schwarz in the low-power range. Moreover, it is an ideal supplement to the transmitters of the R&S NA6000 series with medium power.

The DAB transmitter is available in three models with powers of 75 W, 150 W, and 300 W and can be operated on a desktop or installed in a rack. Owing to its space-saving concept, the R&S SLA8000 occupies only three or four (300 W model) height units.

Prepared precorrection curves saved in the transmitter significantly simplify installation of the transmitter and putting it into operation. If the channel is changed, the optimal curve is loaded. The R&S SLA8000 is thus ideal for emergencies and makes it possible to quickly resume transmission after a failure, for example. In single frequency networks, an integrated SFN adapter is employed for data synchronization. The required clock references can be applied externally or via an integrated GPS module that is available as an option. High-quality universal power supplies allow operation on AC supplies from 90 V to 265 V.

Local transmitter operation is via a keypad and display or via a web browser by means of a notebook with Ethernet interface. The most important operating parameters are additionally displayed on the front panel via LEDs. As remote-control interface, the transmitter can be optionally equipped with a parallel interface, a modem interface, and Ethernet or SNMP.

It is also possible to update the operating software and to install modifications of the transmit standard. Moreover, all operation-relevant data can be easily transferred from one transmitter to the next or saved on a central server. The transmitters support the N+1 (including 1+1) standby configurations, which is advantageous for the further expansion of digital networks.

The R&S SLA8000 DAB low-power transmitter from Rohde & Schwarz will be available in three models (75 W, 150 W, and 300 W) as of February 2008.
