On June 30, 2017, Rohde & Schwarz had approximately 10,500 employees, about 6000 of whom work in Germany. The group achieved a net revenue of approximately EUR 1.9 billion in the 2016/2017 fiscal year (July to June).

Global player

Rohde & Schwarz has an extensive sales and service network and is present in more than 70 countries, primarily with its own subsidiaries. Exports account for approximately 85 percent of revenue. The company is headquartered in Munich, Germany, and has strong regional hubs in Asia and the USA.

Rohde & Schwarz is a high-tech company that thrives on innovation. To maintain its high quality standards, Rohde & Schwarz keeps almost the entire value chain within the company. Communications and security solutions for critical infrastructures

Rohde & Schwarz helps protect critical infrastructures with products from its various business segments.

Drones represent a security risk when they enter prohibited areas. They do more than threaten businesses' intellectual property and privacy through espionage. With their ability to carry loads up into the kilogram range, they also pose a risk to life and limb. The drone identification solution from Rohde & Schwarz enables users to detect and locate drones early on using the remote control signal.

For security checks at airports and other access protected areas, the company has developed an innovative body scanner. Using millimeterwave technology and artificial intelligence, it automatically detects whether a person is carrying potentially dangerous items on their body or clothing. The scanner is now in operation at numerous German and international airports.

ATC communications systems from Rohde & Schwarz contribute to air traffic safety at more than 200 airports and flight operations centers all over the world. Their IP-based system architecture allows virtual control centers to be set up, enabling air traffic controllers to handle airplanes over long distances and across borders without having to hand over to another controller. The air navigation service providers of Ireland and Iceland currently operate such a joint virtual control center on the North Atlantic route.

It is important to ensure smooth communications everywhere, not just at airports. Mobile telephony, government radiocommunications, navigation systems and broadcasting must operate smoothly in their allocated frequency bands. To make sure that happens, Rohde & Schwarz offers portable, mobile and stationary systems for detecting, locating and analyzing radiocommunications signals. Its system solutions meet all of the requirements and recommendations of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the United Nations agency responsible for regulating the use of the frequency spectrum.

Reconnaissance equipment for homeland and external security

It does not require much effort to misuse information and communications technologies for illegal purposes. In order to ensure that government authorities and public safety organizations are effective, they must have state-of-the-art technology at their disposal. Rohde & Schwarz has the communications intelligence equipment needed to detect potential threats and investigate criminal acts.

Communications and reconnaissance equipment for armed forces

Armed forces need their own highly secure communications equipment to succeed in their missions and safeguard national sovereignty. For decades, Rohde & Schwarz has supplied ground, air and naval forces throughout the world with innovative communications and reconnaissance systems.

Communications intelligence delivers a comprehensive operational picture – without exposing own forces. The Rohde & Schwarz portfolio includes detection, direction finding and analysis systems for all frequency ranges and platforms. Communications intelligence (COMINT) systems and radar intelligence (ELINT) systems mutually support each other.

Software defined radios satisfy the highest security standards, enable network centric operations and ensure interoperability between all branches of the armed forces and between allied nations. Communications is encrypted using both NATO and proprietary methods – drawing on the company's decades of experience and expertise in this field. Rohde & Schwarz radio systems protect communications in land-based operations. They are installed in various types of aircraft and helicopters and integrated into naval vessels of all sizes. Rohde & Schwarz developed the joint radio system of the German armed forces (SVFuA). The SVFuA is installed as a communications hub in command vehicles. It kicks off the first phase of the MoTaKo modernization project for digitizing mobile tactical communications within the German armed forces. The goal of the project is to completely modernize all radio equipment used by the German armed forces over the next few years.

Longevity is a fundamental quality feature of Rohde & Schwarz products.
