Now as a perfect security package

To date, Browser in Box ran with the virtualization solution VirtualBox from Oracle. From now on, Browser in the Box is also available together with Microsoft's virtualization solution Hyper-V. Browser in the Box is compatible with Hyper-V on Windows 10 from Anniversary Edition on and still with VirtualBox on Windows 7 and upwards. In the past, when reinstalling Windows 10, the problem was that Hyper-V was automatically activated and thus VirtualBox from Oracle stopped working. The development team around Browser in the Box worked meticulously to make the endpoint security solution compatible with Hyper-V as well. So good news for those customers who have avoided upgrading to Windows 10 so far and for those who already rely on the virtualization solution Hyper-V in combination with the security features of Windows 10.

What does that mean for the IT administration?

For IT administrators, this new virtualization possibilty means that when installing Browser in the Box on a Windows 10 operating system, the admin can now decide whether to use VirtualBox or Hyper-V.

With Hyper-V and Browser in the Box you get a complete security package. On the one hand, because with the Hyper-V version, you can use the virtualization-based security features of Windows Defender. This provides a well-secured operating system as a host. And secondly, Browser in the Box provides comprehensive protection against malicious software and threats from the Internet.

What are the virtualization-based security features of Windows Defender?

Safety features include e.g. the Windows Defender Credential Guard. This ensures that the operating system and the login credentials of the users are strictly separated from each other, preventing unwanted rights extension (e.g. privilege escalation). Add to that the Windows Defender Device Guard, a security feature that uses app whitelisting and code integrity policies. The goal is to protect user devices from malicious code that could compromise the operating system. The IT administration can also use the Device Guard in Virtual Secure Mode (VSM). There is a Windows Hypervisor-protected kernel that helps to keep faulty drivers and files away from the system at the virtualization level.
