eCall and NG eCall testing

Ensuring a fast rescue chain to save lives

With the vision of making road traffic safer, national and international authorities worldwide have made automated emergency call systems mandatory in every newly registered car.

ECall systems provide an information and communication channel to enable rapid assistance for motorists involved in a serious collision by manually or automatically initiating an emergency call (E112) and transmitting supporting data to start a fast rescue chain.

As every minute counts Rohde & Schwarz eCall testing solutions are designed to help achieve the future Vision Zero of no fatalities or serious injuries involving road traffic. The solutions ensure 100% reliable functioning of eCall modules within today’s relevant global communication infrastructures.

Your challenges:

  • Ensure a 100% reliably functioning eCall module that rapidly sends an alert and enables stabile communications between rescue services and the vehicle involved in the collision
  • Deliver the necessary rescue data (e.g. position, direction, vehicle details)
  • Fulfill various global conformity standards (eCall, ERA GLONASS)
  • Keep pace with future frequency technologies, such as the shift from today’s GSM, UTMS based eCall infrastructure to LTE or 5G NR based communications (NG eCall)

Our solution:

  • A test setup enabling various, ready-to-use test scenarios reflecting real-world conditions
  • Simulates a public safety answering point (PSAP), making it possible to automatically and repeatedly run all test sequences
  • Simultaneously simulates both the GNSS signal to test the module’s ability to determine the exact positioning and the different mobile communications networks to test the module’s ability to provide the correct minimum set of data (MSD) and establish communications with emergency services
  • Combines all relevant (GSM, UMTS) and future relevant (e.g. 4G LTE or 5G NR) frequency bands
  • Meets the relevant global eCall standards to prepare for certification

Your benefits:

  • Reduced COMPLEXITY of an all-in-one test solution offering multiple automated tests of all necessary eCall frequencies from GNSS to mobile communication standards
  • Reduced COST of a single solution suitable for various global eCall compliance standards (such as eCall, ERA-GLONASS)
  • Safe INVESTMENT in a solution for running tests on today’s mobile infrastructure, tomorrow’s next generation LTE based eCall (NG eCall) and even the future 5G
