Fixed monitoring stations

Fixed monitoring stations

Extensive spectrum monitoring capabilities

Fixed monitoring stations (FMS) form the backbone of the nationwide spectrum monitoring network. They can cover wide areas with a set of antennas on high masts. Operators can perform measurements either directly on local and remote systems or configure them to perform automatic monitoring tasks for unattended long-term measurement. Modem spectrum monitoring systems increasingly use unmanned remote controlled stations integrated into larger nationwide networks.

Starting point for all spectrum monitoring tasks

Attended monitoring stations

Attended monitoring stations

At fixed monitoring stations, operators usually perform various spectrum monitoring tasks as part of a daily routine. They also respond to complaints about radio interference requiring urgent mitigation. A comprehensive setup and wide coverage mean that fixed stations can measure emitter signal parameters or verify interfering emissions from afar. They can also provide initial measurement data to enable a quick response and immediate intervention. Attended fixed monitoring stations commonly form the backbone of a monitoring network, but their operators can also task mobile and portable systems to follow up on radio interference mitigation efforts.

Remote controlled monitoring stations

Remote controlled monitoring stations

Unattended monitoring stations complement spectrum monitoring networks. They can be operated remotely or perform autonomous measurements. Automated measurement can run 24/7 and trigger processes and alarms to allow a quick operator response. These compact monitoring systems are complete monitoring stations contained in weatherproof housings mounted directly underneath the antennas on a mast. This minimizes the required infrastructure and facilitates site selection.

Wide ranging capabilities

Wide ranging capabilities

Fixed monitoring stations are capable of numerous measuring tasks, including compliance measurements to detect, verify and analyze spectrum violations. With a direct interface to spectrum management databases, fixed monitoring stations make it easy to compare registered parameters with measured values. This makes it possible to detect unlicensed transmitters and other unwanted emissions in the spectrum to prevent radio interference. Fixed monitoring stations enable these and many more measurements as well as direction finding not only in the VHF to EHF range but also in HF.

Uncompromising equipment

Uncompromising equipment

Rohde & Schwarz is a one-stop shop offering a broad range of equipment that lets customers custom configure fixed monitoring stations. Because fixed stations usually offer sufficient space and have no significant electrical power constraints, they can accommodate a wide range of specialized equipment. This allows operators to select the system configuration best suited to each measurement as a basis for efficient processes and optimal results.
