Cannot use internal display and external monitor together at the same time.

Question

I cannot use the internal display and the external monitor together at the same time.

I can either switch on the internal display or the external monitor - but not both at the same time.

What's wrong?

The resolution settings for both displays must be the same if you want the internal display and

the external monitor to be active at the same time.
