Control loop stability

Every power supply has a feed-back loop that monitors the output voltage or current and keeps the output within acceptable limits.Control Loop Analysis allows close study of this feedback loop.

Power electronics designers face the challenge of increasing efficiency and performance requirements while meeting reliability standards, achieving higher power density and reducing cost. One approach to increase efficiency is faster switching with lower losses. This can result in higher switching losses which makes it more difficult to control the gate drive. It might also produce higher ripple current and increase EMI. Switching analysis

To maximize a power converter’s efficiency and performance, it helps to increase the switching frequency. Increasing a power design’s switching speed also affects the timing characteristics, interactions between high and low side transistors. It might lead to undesired outcomes such as shoot-through and excessive EMI that must be accounted for.
