Rohde & Schwarz acquires NEOSAT and PHYTRONIC and strengthens its competencies in sovereign satellite communications

Rohde & Schwarz acquires Dresden-based deep-tech companies NEOSAT and PHYTRONIC. The two companies are developing technologies for multi-antenna satellite systems and are working on the global connectivity of machines and sensors via satellite, as well as on innovative transmission methods in space. This complements core Rohde & Schwarz competencies in secure and resilient communications for civil and military aerospace.

Munich, September 23, 2026 – The global technology group Rohde & Schwarz strengthens its position in the strategically growing space market with the acquisition of NEOSAT and PHYTRONIC. At the same time, the company is relying on a model that is becoming increasingly crucial in view of the international pace of innovation, one that combines specialized deep-tech expertise with industrial development, production and scalability to build sustainable and powerful European value-added structures.

NEOSAT GmbH and PHYTRONIC GmbH combine highly specialized, complementary capabilities for the next generation of secure aerospace communications systems. NEOSAT, founded at the Bundeswehr University Munich in 2018, develops innovative concepts for multi-antenna satellite systems, satellite-based IoT connectivity and communications payloads. PHYTRONIC, founded in 2023, complements the NEOSAT capability profile with innovative waveform design for space and avionics communications systems and develops tailored solutions to meet the specific requirements of secure communications in aerospace, space and terrestrial sensing.

With the acquisition of the two deep-tech companies at the Dresden business and innovation location, Rohde & Schwarz will bundle two components of communications technology: hardware design for satellite payload and ground infrastructure on the one hand and waveform development for aerospace systems on the other. Both fields of competence contribute to sovereign communications in space. This significantly strengthens and expands vertical integration at Rohde & Schwarz as well as its ability to compete and grow in the SATCOM market.
