Brief description

6240B is a DC voltage and current source/monitor with high-performance features including a source display resolution of 4½ digits, measuring display resolution of 5½ digits and base accuracy of 0.02 %. It can operate as a voltage source or as a real current source in DC, sweeped or pulsed operation. High resolution and extended protection tools make it perfect for testing sensitive electronic components. A low-resistance measurement mode cancels thermal electromotive force for conductive materials.

The 6240B can be used as a power source in a wide range of applications such as for evaluation purposes in research and development of semiconductors and other electronic components or for characteristic test systems on a production line. DC, pulse, DC sweep and pulse sweep source modes

The 6240B has four source modes – DC, pulse, DC sweep and pulse sweep. The sweeps can be realized as four sweep types: fixed, linear, random and two-slope linear. The two-slope linear sweep is useful for non-linear parameter tests. The unit can generate minimal pulse widths down to 50 µs and minimal periods down to 500 µs.
The 6240B can operate as a voltage source or as real current source. Like any SMU, the unit also offers precise measurement capabilities.

Fast response and low noise

Linear operation concept

The 6240B features low noise combined with fast output response behavior. A 0 V to 10 V voltage step can typically be realized within 30 µs (0 % to 90 % rise). The output noise there is about 2.4 mV (peak-to-peak) for a measurement bandwidth of DC to 20 MHz. The unit can be operated in two different output response modes (fast or slow). Its low frequency ripple is below 500 µV and it has very low switching noise for range-crossing sweeps. 4-wire and 2-wire operation is possible.

High DUT protection

Precise and fast limiters

The 6240B has precise and fast acting high-resolution-setting limiters: current limiters for voltage operation mode and voltage limiters for current operation mode. Based on its individual high and low limiter setting capability, it is possible to prevent overload or reverse polarity conditions at DUTs, which are usually operated in current mode and will switch off after reaching a specific voltage level. This protects against latch-up effects.

Low-resistance measurement

Pulsed current measurement for low-resistance connector measurements to eliminate the affects of DUT self-heating and cancel out thermal EMF

The 6240B achieves low-resistance measurement without being affected by self-heating of DUTs by using pulse current application to deliver more precise measured values with few errors. The 6240B is also capable of high-precision contact resistance measurement that cancels thermal EMF generated on the contact surfaces of metals. The resolution for low-resistance measurements is down to 0.25 µΩ.

Suspend function with HiZ/LoZ

The 6240B supports three different output OFF states: STBY (output relay OFF), HiZ (output relay ON, high resistance state), LoZ (output relay ON, low resistance state). This eliminates unnecessary ON/OFF relay operations, which increases the average life span. Setting a specific suspend voltage other than 0 V prevents transitional current suctions occuring at connected buffer devices, e.g. batteries.

Convenient trigger and synchronization capabilities

The 6240BA allows precise source/measurement timing. Pulse width, pulse period, source delay, measurement window and measurement delay can be precisely defined with up to 1 µsec resolution. Other hardware trigger/sync signals allow interoperability with other instruments in time-critical applications. It is possible to cascade multiple units even under pulsed conditions, e.g. to increase the output power. GPIB and USB interfaces are standard.

1. The prize draw “10 years Rohde & Schwarz oscilloscopes” (herein referred to as “Draw”) is organized by Rohde & Schwarz GmbH & Co. KG, Mühldorfstraße 15, 81671 Munich, Germany, Tel. +49 89 41 29 0 (herein referred to as “R&S).

2. All participators can register to the draw during January 01, 2020 to December 31, 2020 with their name, company name and business e-mail.

3. Participation is free of charge and not dependent on the purchase of goods or services.

4. The draw is only open to legal entities and only the legal entities are able to win the prizes. An individual person is not allowed to participate on its own name and its own account but as a representative of a legal entity filing the participation form in the name of and on behalf of the legal entity.

5. The prizes to win are 1 of 10 R&S®RTB2000 within the time frame January 1, 2020 to December 31, 2020:

7. The authorized representative of the legal entity shall inform Rohde & Schwarz about the acceptance of the price. In case of the denial of the acceptance, or no answer within two (2) weeks, a new winner will be drawn. If no winner can be determined within four (4) weeks, the draw ends and the prize forfeit.

8. R&S’ employees and members of their families and also person being familiar with the process of the draw and members of their families are excluded from filling the participation form.

9. No cash equivalent or exchange of prizes is allowed. Prizes are non-transferable. All taxes, levies, duties, fees and other charges levied in the participant´s country shall be borne by the participant.

10. Personal data will be processed only for the purpose of this prize draw and deleted four (4) weeks after the draw, if not agreed otherwise.

The draw and any contractual relationship arising therefrom between R&S and the respective participant shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Germany, without any recourse to the conflict of laws. The courts of Munich, Germany, shall have exclusive jurisdiction in case of any disputes arising directly or indirectly from the participation in this Competition.
