This application note is step by step guide on 5G New Radio (5G NR) signal generation and analysis capabilities using the R&S®SMW200A Vector Signal Generator equipped with software option SMW-K144 (5G NR option), in combination with the R&S®FSW Signal and Spectrum Analyzer and the software options FSW-K144 & FSW-K145 (5G NR Downlink & Uplink Signal Analysis). The R&S®VSE Vector signal explorer has also been used for analysis purpose in parallel to the FSW-K144 & FSW-K145 software options. It is assumed that the reader already has a deep understanding of the 5G New Radio standard as well as the testing aspects. If not, then please refer to the 5G eBook more a detailed overview on the fundamentals, procedures, testing aspects of the 5G NR technology.

Rohde & Schwarz demonstrates first signal generation and analysis solution for 5G New Radio at MWC 2018The first 5G New Radio (NR) specifications were just released by 3GPP in December. Rohde & Schwarz is underscoring its leading position in 5G testing by developing the industry’s first dedicated test solutions for 5G NR downlink and uplink signals for base stations, UE and component testing in line with 3GPP Release 15. At Mobile World Congress 2018, Rohde & Schwarz will display a respective setup consisting of the R&S FSW signal and spectrum analyzer and the R&S SMW200A vector signal generator.

Rohde & Schwarz adds 5G New Radio uplink analysis to its R&S FSW signal and spectrum analyzerRohde & Schwarz is introducing a new solution for analyzing 5G NR uplink signals in line with the latest 3GPP specifications. The R&S FSW-K145 5G-NR UL measurement application for the R&S FSW signal and spectrum analyzer is used to develop 5G user equipment and components such as power amplifiers. It complements the existing R&S FSW-K144 5G NR downlink measurement application, which is used to test 5G base stations. The R&S SMW-K144 5G NR option for the R&S SMW200A vector signal generator can generate the required signals for uplink and downlink receiver tests. All three 5G NR signal generation and analysis options now support 15.2.0, the most recent version of the 3GPP standard.
. - Option SMW-K144 (5G NR) is now identified. AMS32-K50/-K53: - A new version of the FIAFTA algorithm is included, leading to a significant improvement in transformation speed.
An ever-increasing requirement for data on mobile networks, driven by a myriad of applications from HD video on the move to autonomous vehicles and Industrial IOT, means a part of the new 5G network is to be deployed at mmWave frequencies, with a 26 GHz pioneer band defined for the UK between 24.25 - 27.5 GHz.This near 10-fold increase in frequency over 4G networks opens several challenges, both in the design and implementation of the required sub-components, network infrastructure and end user equipment, and in parallel in the test and measurement approaches used to drive these developments. In this presentation, we will introduce some of the main challenges in test and measurement of a device at these frequencies. We will then present the testing of a 26-28GHz pioneer band dual channel amplifier evaluation module using 5G NR test waveforms.
This document describes the digital standard options of the R&S®SMW200A, R&S®SMBV100B and R&S®SMBV100A vector signal generators.
