Make your infrastructure more dynamic and intelligent

Taking 5G to the next level

Redefining the possibilities of content delivery

At Rohde & Schwarz we see new and exciting possibilities where 5G Broadcasting is a game changer. It’s the future of media delivery and it scales with unprecedented efficiency and reliability.

Currently we see that internet streaming is fundamentally flawed when we try to scale. Every device that requires streamed media demands chunks of data from media servers, this results in a resource-heavy delivery system. Adding a viewer’s device to a streamed event makes a specific demand on the internet infrastructure, and when this reaches a certain tipping point, all users are affected and suffer a significant degradation in the quality of their signal and the overall experience.

5G Broadcast is here to solve that problem and is a one-to-many technology where all mobile device viewers receive the live event through the 5G network. As the devices are effectively passive, adding more devices doesn’t affect the network at all. Therefore, all users have the same high-level quality of experience and service.

Although live video distribution is very important, 5G broadcast/multicast does not necessarily mean mobile TV. In fact, 5G is bringing new broadcast and multicast capabilities to the whole ecosystem. Read on and discover more about the benefits of 5G Broadcast and the applications it is enabling.

Key Benefits of 5G

5G technology is bringing new broadcast and multicast capabilities to the entire wireless ecosystem, all while creating high spectral and energy efficiency, and bringing about reduced costs. Clearly 5G holds the promise of original technological and business opportunities enabling a more sustainable and better-connected world. Reach out and learn how your business can benefit from this new and exciting technology.

Unleash new opportunities

Unleash new opportunities

Although live video distribution is critical, broadcast/multicast over 5G is not only restricted to linear and live content distribution. In fact, for network operators and media content providers, this means a completely new range of business models are now possible for delivering content or data to large numbers of consumers, and without affecting the regular cellular 5G mobile network. Particularly suitable for new consumer applications are the venue and automotive sectors.

A safer, better-connected world

A safer, better-connected world

5G Broadcast is not only concerning new business opportunities, is also committing to a safer, better-connected world with improved public safety features during critical situations where it simplifies the relationship between citizens and public authorities. See how 5G Broadcast is here to serve communities around the globe.

Think more dynamic

In addition, 5G Broadcast is creating opportunities for broadcast network operators to make their infrastructure more dynamic and help them discover new distribution features. It also supports mobile network operators in offloading their heavy streaming and data loads to avoid infrastructure overprovisioning. As a result, they can serve consumers with higher quality of service while reducing CAPEX and OPEX. Check out new opportunities for your business with 5G Broadcast.

Ensuring public safety is one of the basic 5G broadcast tasks. Be it dangerous weather conditions, pandemic situations, terrorist alerts, 5G Broadcast makes for efficient delivery of public safety alerts.

Vehicle Casting

Vehicle Casting

Automobile manufacturers need safe and reliable communication systems to connect cars with devices. Be it software and firmware updates or media and entertainment, 5G Broadcast can help with OTA real-time traffic and V2X delivery.

Venue Casting

Venue Casting

Imagine the in-venue atmosphere with a live home experience. 5G multicast is here to enhance the fan experience in new ways and also bring benefits for MNOs.

OTA Multicast

OTA Multicast

Rohde&Schwarz recommends using a one-to-many approach to multicast any data intended to reach multiple devices at the same time, such as software and firmware updates, remote bug patches and centrally managed configuration and control data.

eSports

eSports

In the eSports world, it’s all about the shared, live experience. Gaming consoles now include the option for broadcast sessions to share the game experience, 5G is here to enhance it.

FAQ 5G Broadcast

What coverage is possible with 5G Broadcast?

The expected coverage after 5GB implementation will highly depend on the use case behind. For example, a nationwide service like Emergency alerts will need a ubiquitous coverage made out of SFN solutions with a combination of High Power and Medium Power solution. On the contrary, a localized 5G Broadcast service would need few Low Power sites, depending on the need. Technically speaking, the coverage capability of 5G Broadcast does not only depend on the selected output power but on many other RF parameters such as the selected MCS and antenna gain.

How can 5G Broadcast contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions?

5G Broadcast looks, at a first glance, similar to existing broadcast solutions, which is not 100% correct! From one side, 5G Broadcast inherits the mobile broadband capabilities which allow it to reach out to millions of devices. From the other side, 5G Broadcast addresses today and tomorrow’s broadcasters requirements. In that sense, the technology does not only reduce carbon foot print for home entertainments but also on the go, wherever digital content is needed.

What applications can be addressed with 5G Broadcast?

5G Broadcast addresses multiple deployment scenarios, like live content distribution, Software updates/upgrades as well in-Home entertainment. On top, 5G Broadcast contributes to the safety of the society with emergency public warning services.
