JUICE radar antenna tested with the R&S® EMI test receiver

JUICE radar antenna tested with the R&S® EMI test receiver

In 2022, the JUICE space probe will start its journey to Jupiter, the largest planet in our solar system.

It will arrive seven years later and spend the next three and a half years orbiting and studying the planet.

In Heiligenberg near Friedrichshafen in South Germany, JUICE has now left the earth for the first time. The Radar for Icy Moons Exploration (RIME) on board the space probe was tested while hanging from a helicopter.

Rohde & Schwarz was also a part of the action and provided two R&S® ESR EMI test receivers to measure the antenna's radiation pattern.

"When we analyzed the measurement task, it quickly became clear that a basic spectrum analyzer wouldn't deliver the required performance and we needed to bring in a realtime spectrum analyzer. Due to the unknown environmental conditions of the measurements, we decided to use two R&S® ESR analyzers BECAUSE they have an additional preselection feature."
