In the Release Notes the different upgrade procedures for USB among others are described as follows :
This means that your device will run in USB CDC (also known as USB VCP) mode during the update process.
Choosing "USB" will not work - the updater only works using the COM port being associated to your device.
Windows 10 will automatically install and use the adequate driver for HO732 while the other interface cards may require the appropriate driver to be installed.
This procedure is explained in the following manual:
https://scdn.rohde-schwarz.com/ur/pws/dl_downloads/dl_common_library/dl_manuals/gb_1/h/ho720_730/HO720_730_Dual_Interface_InstallationGuide_de_en_01.pdf
While the driver can be found here:

After starting your device using the described key combination from the table above (e.g. HMP4040 with HO720 is [REMOTE]-[ENTER] ) change over to the Windows Device Manager. Here are some examples how these interfaces will appear:
After the device is detected, open the Firmware updater, choose the device and COM-Port.
If these settings are done, start the update by clicking on the "UPDATE FIRMWARE OF..." button:
The updater window will not change for a longer time. However you can see which step is performed at the moment when taking a look at the instrument screen (e.g. "Main controller update in progress" or "CHx controller update in progress").
Do not end the program or switch off the power supply before the installer confirms completeness or the instrument gives a message like "FIRMWAREUPDATE FINISHED!"
You now can restart your device and work with the new firmware.
