FAQ VENICE

In which file formats can I record?

VENICE S supports most the industry standard formats.

In particular, VENICE S supports at least the following wrappers: MXF OP 1a, MXF OP Atom, DV, Quicktime, MPEG,

The list of supported codecs contains at least: DNxHD, DVCProHD, AVC Intra, ProRes, XAVC, XDCAM HD, HDV, 8bit yuv.

Do I need to export the recorded media to be able to use it?

No. VENICE S records natively into a file using the codec/wrapper that you have configured.

Does the VENICE server come with internal storage?

VENICE S is available either with or without internal storage.

Can I record a multi-cam show?

Yes. Synchronized using an external common sync, you can record groups of up to 10 cameras with VENICE S servers.

Which combinations of inputs and outputs can be used?

Each of the video channels of the VENICE S can be configured to be either an input or an output. This configuration can be changed on the fly at runtime.

Are the preview pictures as displayed in VENICE UI available in the network?

Yes, they are. They are available in the network using an industry standard protocol.

Can I access the recordings on a VENICE S using my desktop computer?

Yes, you can. Among other connectivity options, VENICE S supports file sharing via SMB and nfs.

Is VENICE S a standalone solution? Do I need to purchase supporting devices?

VENICE S is usable on its own. Just connect the content and control it with your automation. You can also use VENICE UI to control VENICE S from your notebook.

Can I control VENICE S using APIs?

Yes, you can. VENICE S is supporting open industry standard protocol to control ingesting, transcoding and playing back content. Also, the APIs to configure the VENICE S server are public.

What interfaces does VENICE S have?

A VENICE S server has redundant power supplies, redundant media data network connections, control network connections, USB interfaces. It comes with one or two interface boards, each of them connecting to 3G SDI, 12G SDI or IP 2110. Options to connect AES/EBU, RS422, Blackburst and other sync sources can be ordered.

Which storage connectivity options are available for VENICE S?

VENICE S works best using its internal storage or in conjunction with the Rohde&Schwarz SpycerNode family of storage solutions. In addition, it natively supports nfs, smb or ssfs.

What file system is VENICE S using internally for media data?

As of today, VENICE S is using the industry standard XFS file system for media data on its internal storage.
