Seminar Overview

Topic: Advancements in technology; enabling the transition towards a fully connected world with 5G, IoT and V2X.

5G is no longer something to think about in the future; the future is now!

The specifications and proof of concept trials are progressing rapidly and becoming the focus of the Telecommunications industry. Together with 5G, the Internet of Things (IoT) is another revolutionary approach to synchronize everything and everyone.

Furthermore, advancements in transportation such as autonomous vehicles are now becoming a reality. Presenting new challenges for both the Automotive and Wireless Communications Industries, new communications techniques are required between the vehicles and everything else; introducing the concept of Vehicle to Everything (V2X).

Our seminar aims to introduce the audience to the technologies under development for 5G, IoT (Internet of Things) and V2X.


About the speakers


Mr. Joerg Koepp

Market Segment Manager for the IoT market, Rohde & Schwarz

Joerg Koepp is market segment manager for the IoT market at Rohde & Schwarz. In this role he is promoting R&S’s test & measurement solutions for the Internet of Things market and served as technology and market experts for this market. Joerg has broad experience in the communication market, and is well known for his seminars and presentations on the Internet of Things topic. Prior to joining Rohde & Schwarz, Joerg was working as system architect, project leader, and director system engineering and technology manager at Siemens and Nokia Siemens Networks.


Mr. Michael Leung

Director of Industrial Centre ,Hong Kong Polytechnic University

Dr Michael Leung received his Master of Science in Electronic Engineering and Doctor of Engineering degrees from PolyU in 1998 and 2005 respectively. He has become an IEEE Senior Member since 2006, and IET Chartered Engineer and IET Fellow membership since 2003 and 2013 respectively.

Dr Leung had served as the Global Business Manager in an international technology company. He specialised in developing 4G and 5G wireless communications technology and worked with leading international experts to deliver advanced communication solutions. He had received a few technical invention awards and excellence performance awards, as well as contributed many technical conference papers and research papers in various international journals and conferences.


Mr Holger Rosier

Technology Manager, Wireless, Rohde & Schwarz

Holger Rosier is a Technology Manager with Rohde & Schwarz in Strategic Marketing and Portfolio Management. His focus is on wireless communication technologies for vertical industries, in particular for connected cars.

Prior to joining Rohde & Schwarz, Holger was a Senior Technology Lead for IoT with Huawei Technologies in Germany. In this position, he led joint 5G V2X research industry projects.

Holger holds a University degree in Electrical Engineering & Information Technology from the RWTH Aachen University. He combined post-graduate studies on 3GPP technologies and ultra-wideband communication with consultancy for Intelligent Transportation Systems.

Mr. Guenter Pfeifer

Mr. Guenter Pfeifer

Technology Manager, Wireless Communication, Rohde & Schwarz

Guenter Pfeifer is Technology Manager for Wireless Communication with focus on LTE/LTE-A and 5G technologies. After joining Rohde & Schwarz in 1997, he spent 18 years in the field of mobile radio as the responsible product manager for different R&S radio com testers. Covering various technologies from GSM to LTE-A he spent a good portion of his time on mobile broadband topics, which finally lead to his involvement in 5G technology management.

Guenter holds a Diploma in electrical engineering from the University of Applied Sciences in Kempten, Germany

The joint use of 5G/IoT technology with 3D-printed structures is very appealing for designing new smart mobile devices while maintaining cost-effectiveness.

The next generation mobile network – 5G – is developing fast in the standardization body 3GPP. Target is to have a first specification ready by the end of 2017 and continue to specify for the IMT2020 submission at the World Radio Communication Conference WRC-19 in November 2019, in time for the first network rollouts.

This presentation is looking into the status in the 3GPP standardization as well as into ongoing worldwide trials and development. Further on it will touch on some of the measurement challenges that come along with 5G features such as AAS and mmWave and how to address them.
