The world is getting smarter and needs profound communication technology, more than ever before.

5G is the catalyst that propels adoption of connectivity in new verticals. Connectivity together with Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning have no bounds in ways, of how our lives can change. With rapid adoption of 5G in new verticals from 5G broadcast, automotive to industry automation, not just the device landscape extends beyond mobiles to cars, robotics etc, the standards to conform and the way of testing change greatly with each new vertical.

The next generation networks are to fulfill greater flexibility and offer QoS/QoE on a different granularity to serve numerous applications and verticals. With a large number of deployments already underway, Rohde & Schwarz would like to share the challenges and the expertise in laying out the next generation 5G networks.

In this Technology Symposium, together with industry partners, we explore the building blocks of 5G and the new possibilities. We will share our views and the results of recent trials carried out with the industry partners.

Product Manager for Mobile Terminal Conformance Test, Broadcast and Media (Asia Pacific) - Rohde & Schwarz Regional Headquarters Singapore

Harald Gsoedl is Product Manager for Mobile Terminal Conformance Test, operating out of Singapore. His main responsibility is the RF/RRM/Protocol conformance test market in Greater China since 07/2016.

Harald joined Rohde & Schwarz in October 2005 as an Application Engineer. Subsequently he hold different positions as Product Manager, EXPAT and Manager Technical Sales within the test & measurement field.

He holds a degree in electrical engineering from the Deggendorf Institute of Technology and an MBA in international management from the European School of Business (ESB) in Reutlingen.

Wilson Thong

Associate Principal Engineer – Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute

Wilson Thong is an Associate Principal Engineer at ASTRI with current focus on 5G smart application. His role in software engineering covers 1) 5G device-to-device UE protocol stack development, 2) 4G/LTE small-cells self-organizing algorithm, 3) 4G/LTE small-cells and UE protocol stack development and integration, and 4) 4G/LTE/GSM/TD-SCDMA sniffer development in PHY/MAC layer.

Wilson received his PhD degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering from the City University of Hong Kong. Prior to joining ASTRI, he worked for PCCW Engineering in IP network research and development.

Nils Ahrens

Regional Manager, Asia Pacific - Rohde & Schwarz (Australia) PTY. Ltd

Nils has been working for Rohde & Schwarz for more than 15 years now, holding Project Management positions in the Middle East for their Radio Communication Business Unit. Currently he holds the position as Regional Manager for the Broadcast & Media Business Unit in Asia Pacific. Since 2012 he is based in Australia responsible as Head of Sales & Marketing for Broadcast & Media solutions.

Prior Rohde & Schwarz Nils was 10 years with the Tektronix, holding different positions for their Video Business in Europe as well as Bruel & Kjaer for Sound & Vibration Measurements. He also worked years for the Aerospace industry and has got experience in Cable & Satellite TV as well as Headends.

Nils holds an Engineering Degree in Communication / Information technology of the University of Applied Sciences in Cologne.

Senior R&D Manager, Smart Mobility, APAS R&D Centre

Mr. Steven Lee is now the Senior R&D Manager, Smart Mobility team of the Automotive Platforms and Application Systems R&D Centre. His recent R&D focus is on the development of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), Autonomous Driving, Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) technology and automotive intelligent systems. He was previously working at Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) as Consultant between 2008-2012 chairing the development of ADAS systems under the Innovation and Technology Fund which outcomes with around 7 patents. The project results were then expanded to second generation of ADAS in ITF project application and later trial demonstration at public utility vehicles in Non-Government Organizations.

Mr. Lee graduated with 1st Hon BEng Degree at the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Hong Kong (HKU) in 1998 and then further studied his MPhil at same department with knowledge in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). Prior to entry into automotive industry, he was also a Consultant at the Building Physics team, Advanced Engineering of Ove Arup & Partners HK Ltd. He has helped the Buildings Department and Housing Department in devising the Building Environmental Assessment Method as well as advising Natural Lighting and Air design for greener public housing.

Albert Huang

Director, Benchmark & Optimization Asia Pacific Support - Rohde & Schwarz

Albert is a techie at heart. Albert started his career as a Research and Development Engineer at the Centre for Strategic Infocomm Technologies (CSIT) before joining Rohde & Schwarz Regional Headquarters Singapore. Albert has held various positions at Rohde & Schwarz, including Support and Systems Engineer, Senior Engineer and Project Manager. More recently, Albert is Head of Operations for Mobile Network Testing APAC Support. In this dual role as Head of Support and Regional Technical Pre-Sales Team Leader, Albert’s focus is on technical and market developments.

Albert holds degrees in Engineering, Information Communications and Business from Nanyang Technological University.
