This application note describes how to remotely control the R&S SGMA RF sources SGT100A and SGS100A with a special focus on their high-speed remote control capabilities via LAN based FAST Socket or FAST PCI Express (PCIe) connections which allow round trip setting times of only 100μs.It therefore provides a brief introduction into the general remote control capabilities, explains the interaction of the different SW protocol layers and drivers, and in detail describes how to establish a high-speed remote control connection. Finally, a comparison of the measured setting time performance of the different remote control approaches is provided.

The R&S®SGS100A is an RF source designed to meet the requirements of automated test systems. It is available as a continuous wave (CW) source or as a vector signal generator with an integrated I/Q modulator. With its frequency range of up to 12.75 GHz, the vector signal generator version covers the essential digital signals. The CW version can be used as a flexible local oscillator as well as for interference testing against mobile radio standards. The R&S®SGU100A upconverter extends the frequency range to 40 GHz.

The instruments are also an ideal enhancement for the R&S®SMW200A in MIMO applications. They can interface to the high-end vector signal generator and serve as additional RF outputs. This application note explains how to connect and interface with the SGMA instruments and gives some recommendations and hints about their use. It helps the user to get started and to understand how the instruments interact.

This application note describes how to generate and analyze wideband digitally modulated signals in the mm-wave range.Rohde & Schwarz measuring equipment and some 3rd party off-the-shelf accessories are used for both signal generation and analysis. Measurement results are shown which demonstrate the typical performance for millimeter wave signals in terms of error vector magnitude (EVM) and adjacent channel power (ACLR).Two test setups and their measurement results on a commercial V-band transceiver module are presented.

The Rohde & Schwarz Bluetooth RF test solution with the R&S®CMW and R&S®CMWrun is closely aligned to the Bluetooth RF Test Suite.
