Question:

When setting up my HMC8015 for the measurement, I can only select between two constants for the crest factor.

Answer:

There are only two crest factors to choose. At the end, this value is only used to adapt the measuring range in relation to the peak value of the interference or signal distortions to be expected.

It has no direct influence on the actual measurement.

However, it is important to set it correctly in terms of keeping the best dynamic range as well as not cutting any signal peaks.

For example, when an external shunt is used, the RMS value of the measurement range is calculated based on the crest factor.

Using an external 100 mOhm shunt in combination with a peak voltage of 4 Ohm would set the measurement range to 40 A.

The instrument only shows 13.3A (40A / 3).
