With the number of low-power Internet-of-Things devices drastically increasing, the conventional way of powering them is becoming impractical. Powering them with cables limits mobility and batteries must be periodically replaced. On the other hand, RF Wireless power transfer (WPT) is an on demand maintenance-free powering method that enables devices to be powered at a distance, while in use, and while in motion. In this presentation, we will address how the challenge of the low efficiency of RF WPT can be tackled by shaping the transmit signal waveform. We will also address the WPT standardization efforts from AirFuel Alliance and the Rohde & Schwarz setup used to test the AirFuel Alliance conformance tests.
