Your task

Maintaining spectral awareness at the tactical edge
The electromagnetic support (ES) pillar of electromagnetic warfare (EW) depends on a clear visualization of the RF spectrum. Electromagnetic environments are becoming ever more congested with complex wideband emissions from agile communications systems, low probability of detection (LPD) signals and sophisticated waveforms.

Signals are frequently ultra short, frequency hopping or otherwise masked by the noise of the densely populated RF spectrum, which makes signal discrimination with conventional equipment extremely difficult. Communications electromagnetic support measures (CESM) start by making sense of this complex environment. For light EW teams, unknown emissions create gaps in situational awareness.

Operators must be able to capture high bandwidth data, detect and locate stealth and LPD emissions; it conducts immediate analysis right at the tactical edge to ensure mission success. In high stakes environments, the speed of signal acquisition is the primary factor in maintaining a complete and accurate operational picture.

Rohde & Schwarz solution

High-speed signal acquisition in a handheld format
The R&S®PR300 meets the demands of the EW mission by marrying laboratory grade analytical depth with a compact, man-portable design conforming to MIL-PRF-28800F class 2 standards. It enables the instant capture of elusive wideband signals, providing the speed and precision required to maintain full spectral awareness in any operating environment.

Key capability: 125 MHz real-time bandwidth
The R&S®PR300 features a 125 MHz real-time bandwidth (RTBW), enabling the device to display this entire spectrum simultaneously for big-picture spectrum awareness. This exceptionally wide monitoring window in a handheld receiver lets operators visualize the entire spectral landscape at a glance, allowing simultaneous observation of multiple frequencies and eliminating sequential band searches. This continuous view is ideal for covering and monitoring frequency-hopping signals across VHF frequency ranges used for military communications.
Consequently, operators can readily identify complex signal behaviors, such as hopping patterns, trans-band interference and widespread broadband jamming to facilitatie rapid mitigation and informed countermeasure decisions.

Wideband and gated direction finding
The wide R&S®PR300 near-real-time bandwidth enables wideband direction finding (DF), allowing simultaneous signal tracking across the device’s full monitoring span and delivering exceptional accuracy. Complementing this, gated direction finding pinpoints emitters within time division duplex (TDD) networks. The system also supports precise timestamping and expanded GNSS support for DF antennas, enhancing differentiation of interference on the modern battlefield. Together, these capabilities support concurrent direction finding of multiple signals and enable precise geolocation within networked DF systems when integrated with tactical networks, facilitating rapid tactical decisions.

Scan and monitoring modes
Segmented panorama scan (PSCAN)
The technological core of the R&S®PR300 is its 125 MHz real-time bandwidth. Supported by high-performance preselection, this ensures seamless detection of the most complex wideband signals. The hardware excels with advanced features such as segmented panorama scans, embedded spectrum analysis functions and the ability to perform direction finding on time-gated signals.

Improved frequency scan (FSCAN) and memory scan (MSCAN)
The R&S®PR300 features enhanced FSCAN and MSCAN capabilities to optimize detection workflows, delivering faster spectrum traversal, higher sensitivity to short impulses and finer frequency resolution, alongside continuous oversight and activity alarms. Its scan speed provides near-real-time performance well suited for tracking agile, transient emissions, such as drone-related RF activity within ISM bands.
Combined, these modes offer both rapid, wideband discovery of transient signals and reliable, continuous monitoring of critical channels or guard bands.

Operational versatility
The R&S®PR300 supports reconnaissance during mounted and dismounted operations, position jumping and last mile homing to provide real-time situational awareness.

Furthermore, emission control mode (EMCON) training and signature management can be facilitated by recording and analyzing friendly RF signatures on site. The combination of technical versatility and operational agility makes the R&S®PR300 an effective solution for force protection and information superiority across diverse tactical scenarios.

The design
Built to meet MIL-PRF-28800F class 2 standards, the R&S®PR300 sports a compact, field-ready design optimized for a small logistical footprint. Designed as a dedicated handheld device for light EW missions, the R&S®PR300 features an intuitive layout, a touchscreen and an enhanced GUI for agile operation, programming and a quick overview of critical data.

Optimized size, weight and power (SWaP) characteristics make the receiver ideal for man-portable use in backpacks or operation in vehicles.

Technical notes:

  • USB-C charging: enables modern, flexible charging capabilities
  • Ecosystem compatibility: fully compatible with the Rohde & Schwarz antenna portfolio as well as handheld and compact DF tools for integration with existing equipment
