The most important features for accurate and uncomplicated power measurements are top measurement accuracy and speed as well as simple operation on a base unit or a laptop/PC. The R&S®NRP power meter family combines all these characteristics in the R&S®NRX base unit, R&S®NRPV virtual power meter PC software and a comprehensive portfolio of LAN and USB power sensors. The R&S®NRP family is ideal for use in production, R&D and calibration labs as well as for installation and maintenance tasks.
Short measurement time in conjunction with high accuracy and repeatability of results are essential for efficient testing of mobile phone power amplifiers. Power Meter R&S®NRP, Signal Generator R&S®SMIQ, Spectrum Analyzers R&S®FSP/FSU/FSQ and Power Supply R&S®NGMO2 offer optimum characteristics such as high accuracy, fast settling speed and short measurement time in programmed mode. This application note concentrates on testing GSM/EDGE mobile power amplifiers and shows typical test setups and programming examples for Signal Generator R&S®SMIQ and Spectrum Analyzer R&S®FSP/FSU/FSQ, benchmark numbers and repeatability results.
This Application Note describes measurements compliant with the cdma2000® base station standard described in 3GPP2 C.S0010 / TIA/EIA-97 / ARIB STD-T64-C.S0010. The primary focus is on solutions for generating and analyzing cdma2000® signals. The special characteristics that make the selected signal generators and signal analyzers eminently suitable for this purpose are detailed, and remote control programming is demonstrated by a free of charge program.
Measurement uncertainties that occur when the R&S FSMR measuring receiver is used to calibrate RF levels are described and quantified in this application note. Several Excel spreadsheets are included. They can be used to simplify calculation of the uncertainty for various configurations.
This document presents a simple procedure for network analysis that is more cost-effective than the use of scalar network analyzers. It allows the accurate measurement of the transmission characteristics of filters, amplifiers and frequency converters over a large frequency and dynamic range. In order to reach very high measurement speeds, Rohde & Schwarz signal generators are operated in 'List Mode', and Rohde & Schwarz power meters are operated in 'Buffered Mode.' The required programming for the signal generator and the power meter is illustrated by excerpts from a Visual Basic program which is available, free of charge, upon request.
