Multi CATR antenna test range ATS1800M

For 5G NR FR2 devices, testing must be over the air since there are no RF connectors for conducted testing. But how do you test OTA if multiple signals at multiple angles of arrival are required like in RRM testing for example? The new R&S®ATS1800M provides a solution.R&S® ATS1800M is a multi compact antenna test range (CATR) extension to the established R&S®ATS1800C compact shielded chamber. With the optional side chambers the R&S®ATS1800C grows from one CATR to four , each providing a 30cm quiet zone at the DUT location on the 3D positioner. Full black-box multi angle of arrival testing becomes possible, on a small footprint.

Multi CATR OTA Solution for 5G FR2 RRM testing

5G NR FR2 is all about OTA testing since the required AAS do not support RF connectors for conducted testing. But how do you test OTA if multiple AoA are required like in RRM testing for example? The new R&S®ATS1800M allows for this in a very easy and comfortable way. R&S®ATS1800M is a multi CATR extension to the well known and establishedR&S® ATS1800C compact and protable CATR solution. With the optional side chambers the R&S®ATS1800C grows from one CATR to four such reflectors, each providing a 30cm QZ at the DUT location on the 3D positioner. With this full black-box multi AoA testing with resulting low MU becomes possible on a small footprint.

5G FR2 RRM 2AoA with ATS1800M

One part of 5G certification testing is taking care of Radio Resource Management, called RRM. In FR2 all the tests have to be done over the air. A special setup of testing is given in the 3GPP specification where the right behaviour of a device under tests is checked while receiving the signals from the base station under different angels. Testing voice services in 5G NR - (VoNR)

The R&S®CMW500 wideband radio communication tester in combination with the R&S CMX500 5G communication tester comes with everything needed to test 5G voice services (VoNR) on mobile devices. It features an internal IMS server, enabling registering of 5G devices and setting up the required bearers and QoS flows necessary for voice services. The virtual user equipment (UE) emulation, allowing for establishing mobile originated and mobile-terminated end-to-end voice calls in loopback mode for fast and easy VoNR functional tests. The user can select between the supported codecs, such as EVS and AMR-WB or AMR-NB with their respective codec rates. To test audio quality during a call, an analyzer is required. It must be able to generate and analyze audio waveforms using the latest methodologies according to PESQ or POLQA, whereby POLQA is used for audio quality measurements during VoNR and VoLTE calls. To do so, the R&S®CMW500 & R&S®CMX500 setup can be extended by an audio analyzer.
