eCall is a European initiative intended to bring rapid assistance to motorists involved in a collision anywhere in the European Union. eCall was made mandatory in all new cars sold within the EU as of March 31, 2018. In the event of a serious road accident, an emergency call (E112) is manually or automatically initiated from a vehicle to an emergency agency, and supplemented by sending a minimum set of data (MSD) carrying relevant vehicle and position information.
