Rohde & Schwarz software defined radios feature IP interfaces that make it possible to integrate these radios into a standard IP network for remote control and data transmissions.

IP over the Air (IPoA)

IPoA protocols that have been specially optimized for radiocommunications enable Rohde & Schwarz radios to transport IP packets dynamically within a radio network on the basis of IP addresses. In this way, IP-based messaging systems can, for instance, exchange data between ships and shore stations.

Mobile ad hoc network with high data rates

Supplemented by high-speed network components, the R&S®M3SR Series4400 radios enable IP data transmission in the Mbit/s range – as required for video transmissions, for example. Furthermore, they form a self-organizing mobile ad-hoc network (MANET) that dynamically manages the number of network subscribers and their current availability.

IP split-site

On land, in order to avoid the interference that powerful transmitters cause on neighboring receiver systems, it is necessary to operate transmission and receiving systems at separate locations. To make such a separation possible, Rohde & Schwarz offers a state-of-the-art IP split-site solution. With this approach, a split-site controller controls the transmitters and receivers from the R&S®M3SR Series4100 family via a standard IP network that is simultaneously used for data transmission. Operators can assign transmitters and receivers to a radio circuit by simply selecting the corresponding IP address in the split-site controller.

HF Broadband

The number of transmitter antennas that can be installed on a given ship is limited. Rohde & Schwarz offers HF broadband systems that make it possible to operate multiple transmission systems using specially adapted broadband antennas.

The number of transmitter antennas that can be installed on a given ship is limited. Rohde & Schwarz offers HF broadband systems that make it possible to operate multiple transmission systems using specially adapted broadband antennas. In addition, broadband systems can either be operated individually (for example, with four lines with 1 kW each) or in combiner mode (with a transmission power of 4 kW, for instance).

Integrated Antenna System (IAS)

The primary aim of an integrated antenna system is to reduce the number of shipboard antennas. The few remaining antennas are integrated into the ship’s structure in a way that takes optimal transmission characteristics into account. Compared with conventional antenna systems, this integrated approach significantly reduces shadow losses and provides a virtually omnidirectional radiation characteristic. Special broadband antennas are utilized to operate all shipboard VHF and UHF radio applications.

ALE - Address Pools

Automatic link establishment (ALE) is a widely used standard in RF radiocommunications. Rohde & Schwarz improved the ALE-3G standard by adding address pools. When this extension is employed, it is no longer necessary to call a certain radio by its unique ALE address, thus eliminating a requirement that can lead to major time delays when a radio is busy. With this improvement, a ship can use a pool address when it calls a shore station, for example. The shore station then automatically makes a vacant radio available.
