Network benchmarking campaigns use highly structured processes. Rohde & Schwarz provides specialized equipment for all phases of network benchmarking campaigns and supports the ETSI* TR 103 559 harmonized methodology (Network Performance Score).

Data collection

We offer a modular, reliable and future-proof set of data collection hardware for all network benchmarking use cases, from large scale drive tests to walk tests and indoor measurement campaigns.

  • SmartBenchmarker is the web based software with customizable workspaces and an intuitive GUI that can be used to configure local campaigns.
  • Benchmarker 3 is the next generation drive-test hardware platform that replaces Benchmarker II. All Benchmarker 3 components are fully backwards compatible.
  • Freerider 4 is the portable hardware in a backpack for walk and drive test-based benchmarking.

Benchmarker 3 is the next generation hardware for large-scale drive test-based network benchmarking campaigns. The compact, light-weight and energy-efficient hardware is designed for easy handling, reliable operation as well as uniform and stable measurement conditions. Benchmarker 3 supports up-to 12 QualiPoc probes and up-to 2 R&S®TSME6 RF scanners.

Data analytics

SmartAnalytics is our powerful analytics suite for deep network insights. Starting with high-level overview or test case specific dashboards, SmartAnalytics offers direct drill-down features that ranges from the application layer down to layer 1 and individual test samples. The deep dive statistical analysis helps identify the root cause of network problems in a few clicks. SmartAnalytics also provides automated insights and machine-learning assistance for test cases that fully exploit terabytes of data.

Harmonized test methodologies

Our network benchmarking solution supports the ETSI*( TR 103 559) harmonized network scoring methodology for fully transparent, independent and technology-agnostic QoE network quality and performance assessments.

The integrative scoring methodology reduces complexity by consolidating KPIs for the most popular mobile network end-user services (e.g. voice call, data transfer, video etc.) into a single score, called Network Performance Score (NPS) in R&S solutions. This score can also be used to systematically identify critical factors that have the greatest negative impact on QoE and compare them with the competition. The NPS methodology forms the basis for systematic network performance improvements.

The QoE centric Network Performance Score (NPS) is a single metric that characterizes the overall network performance. The NPS compares the quality of mobile networks and visualizes the quality of experience (QoE) that the end users perceive when using common applications. This benchmarking approach covers all mobile networks in the tested area. The NPS is integrated into the Smart platform and is the ideal point of reference for facilitating benchmarking and reducing the complexity of targeted improvements in network quality and performance.

Poland's first independent drive test campaign

In 2015, for the first time ever, the Polish Office of Electronic Communications (UKE) issued an independent benchmarking campaign to measure the performance of each of the four key mobile network operators in a fair and transparent way. The telecommunications service provider Systemics-PAB – a certified partner of Rohde & Schwarz mobile network testing – won the competitive call for tenders and conducted the nationwide drive tests to analyze voice and data services.
