The R&S®ZN-ZCG comb generator is designed for a precision phase calibration of the R&S®ZNA vector network analyzer. It offers a phase-characterized spectrum for frequency harmonics, serving as a reference signal for phase calibration in wideband receivers. Utilizing the proven R&S ZNA SMARTerCal technique, it features an intuitive graphical user interface to facilitate the calibration of all ZNA ports, similar to a standard calibration unit.

Harmonic or mixer sideband phase calibration often needs extra hardware, increasing setup complexity. The R&S®ZN‑ZCG simplifies this with a single connection to an R&S®ZNA port. Covering 10 MHz to 44/67 GHz, its RF output works with R&S®SMARTerCal to calibrate all measurement and reference receivers in one step. Once calibration is complete, all ports are free for measurement, maximising efficiency and minimising effort.

The R&S®ZN‑ZCG functions as a high-speed pulse generator, producing evenly spaced pulses that translate into a comb-like spectrum. Each spectral line's magnitude and phase is factory-characterised, forming the basis for precise calibration of all R&S®ZNA receivers. With pulse widths under 20 ps and selectable frequency spacing from 1 MHz to 100 MHz - or even user-defined up to 2 GHz - the system adapts to diverse setups.
