Unique signal quality and efficiency in compact, lightweight design

The R&S®PKU100 is a family of solid-state power amplifiers for the Ku-band with a peak power of 400 W. It features top-notch efficiency in an extremely compact design. The powerful optional adaptive linearization improves the RF parameters in a manner never before available. This amplifiers thus combines the advantages of solid-state and tube-based amplifiers.

Compact and lightweight

Both indoor and outdoor model

The 400 W indoor model weighs just 18.3 kg, including the power supply, and requires only 3 RU of rack space.

The rugged and weatherproof outdoor model complies with IP65, weighs just 23 kg and can be mounted directly on the antenna.

Comparable solid-state amplifiers usually weigh twice as much.

Adaptive linearization

Unparalleled spectral purity

This high-power amplifier is the only one that offers adaptive linearization within the Ku-band frequency. This is essential to minimize intermodulation products and optimize power efficiency.

No user interaction or adjustment is required, as the linearizer adapts to provide the best signal performance. This feature significantly improves transmission quality, especially for higher order modulation schemes.

Flexible power supply possibilities

Power supply redundancy

The amplifier can optionally be fitted with redundant power supplies. Those power supplies can even be fed from different power sources. This ensures high availability even when power networks are down or power modules have failed.

The indoor model supports hot-swappable power supplies and the outdoor model offers easy replaceable power modules.

Another unique feature is that the R&S®PKU100 can be operated with 48 V DC power, which could be advantageous for mobile installations.

The redundant power supply can be switched easily during operation

Power efficiency comparable to tube amplifiers

Power efficiency > 20 %

Thanks to the innovative solid-state design, the amplifier is highly efficient and reaches values similar to traveling wave tube amplifiers (TWTA).

The 400 W model, for example, requires only 1300 W mains power to produce 180 W RF average power.
