With the R&S®FSWP, users simply connect the internal signal source to the input of the DUT and the DUT output back to the R&S®FSWP. The additive phase noise of the DUT is then available at the push of a button. The R&S®FSWP uses cross‑correlation for this operating mode as well.
Accurate pulse parameter information and a great deal of patience were needed to achieve stable measurements. When equipped with the R&S®FSWP-K4 option, the R&S®FSWP carries out these measurements at the push of a button. The R&S®FSWP records the signal and calculates all pulse parameters. It then demodulates the signal and displays the phase noise and amplitude noise.
Provides the information required to prepare the instrument for use and start working. Basic operations and handling are described.
Describes all instrument functions and remote control commands, including measurement and programming examples, for the base unit. Also describes some general functions that apply to several applications.Includes the contents of the getting started manual. The online version contains the documentation for the R&S®FSWP base unit and ALL options for immediate display (no download required).
Describes the types of memory and their usage in the R&S®FSWP and issues when working in secured environments. The USB Write Protection Utility disables the write capability on any USB port for storage devices. The manual describes installation and use. Different versions are available for different operating systems.

For automated test applications, measurement time is often as important as the quality of the measurement. As with many situations, time is money. In practice, phase noise measurements are generally not considered fast, but test engineers still desire to save as much test time as possible. The Rohde & Schwarz®FSWP (FSWP) is a modern, digital signal processing based, phase-noise test set that performs many tasks in parallel in an effort to improve measurements speed. However, several measurement settings drastically affect measurement speed. This paper will discuss these settings and provide suggestions on improving overall measurement speed. The three key instrument parameters that affect FSWP measurement speed are:1. Number of cross correlations2. Resolution bandwidth (RBW)3. Offset frequency span

The R&S®FSWP phase noise analyzer and VCO tester combines extremely low‑noise internal sources and cross‑correlation, delivering extremely high sensitivity for phase noise measurements. As a result, it takes just seconds to measure even highly stable sources such as those found in radar applications. Additional options such as pulsed signal measurements, residual phase noise (including pulsed) characterization and integrated high‑end signal and spectrum analysis make the analyzer a unique test instrument.
