Thailand’s regulatory authority once again relies on spectrum monitoring solutions from Rohde & Schwarz

At the end of its tender process for fifteen stationary measuring stations to monitor the radio spectrum, the Thai regulatory authority National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) decided in favor of a Rohde & Schwarz solution.

With this decision, the office of NBTC, the Thai regulatory authority has again opted for a monitoring solution from Rohde & Schwarz. The fifteen stations are scheduled to be installed and put into operation this year. The Munich headquartered company most recently supplied the NBTC with seven mobile measuring stations since 2010 and two mobile measuring stations in 2015.

The new solution equips each measuring station with an R&S ESMD wideband monitoring receiver for spectrum monitoring, a set of antennas, and a computer running R&S ARGUS spectrum monitoring software. R&S ARGUS performs a variety of manual and automatic measurements. For example, operators can configure automatic measurements to start and stop as needed. In the case of long-term measurements for monitoring technical transmission parameters, measurement data can be recorded and warnings triggered when the readings are outside the range of predefined reference values. This allows the authority to verify compliance with the technical parameters and guidelines for transmitter systems. Any violations or radio interference sources can be identified and followed up.

R&S ARGUS also supports statistical evaluations, such as frequency and band occupancy measurements. These can be added to measurement reports with a simple mouse click. As a result, the system provides the basis for effective frequency planning and allocation.

Spectrum monitoring systems allow public authorities to monitor the radio spectrum. To support effective spectrum management, they enable verification of licence data and simplify the planning and allocation of new transmitters. They also allow identification and elimination of radio interference sources. Rohde & Schwarz has been successful worldwide in the field of spectrum monitoring for decades. Rohde & Schwarz system solutions fulfill all relevant requirements and recommendations of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the United Nations (UN) agency responsible for regulating the use of the frequency spectrum.
