Most network operators will implement 5G New Radio (NR) as an extension of their existing LTE mobile network (NSA). As a result, mobile devices will have to function in both worlds simultaneously. That is why Rohde & Schwarz developed the R&S CMX500 , the world's first radio communication tester for 5G NR that can be seamlessly integrated into an existing LTE test environment. It is also ideal for tests in 5G NR standalone (SA) mode.

5G devices operating in the mmWave range (FR2), such as smartphones and tablets, require over-the-air (OTA) testing since these devices usually have no RF port or interface to connect to, and conducted tests are therefore not possible. Rohde & Schwarz introduces new products for RF parametric testing in both the FR1 and FR2 frequency ranges.

At MWC 2019, CommSolid (a Goodix company) will present an IoT reference design integrating its NB-IoT and Bluetooth® SOCs. The manufacturer uses the R&S CMW290 IoT radio communication testers for RF and functional testing of both transmission methods. At Embedded World 2019 in Nuremberg, which takes place in parallel to MWC in Barcelona, Rohde & Schwarz will demonstrate the realistic measurements that make this device solution possible.

Rohde & Schwarz and Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., a subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated, have successfully validated 5G NR cellular sub 6 GHz signaling tests, bringing the commercial roll-out of 5G NR one step closer.
