Rohde & Schwarz daycare center opens in Munich

Starting in the fall of 2020, more than 50 children will be able to attend a new daycare center. At Rohde & Schwarz , the doors are now open to take in a big group of children aged zero to six. The Munich based technology company has supported a healthy work-life balance for decades. In keeping with this philosophy, the decision was taken in 2019 to refurbish its Munich location. Next year, the "Haus der Kinder" will welcome up to 30 more children.

Rohde & Schwarz has created space for 36 daycare and 46 kindergarten children on the company's premises in Friedenstrasse in Munich. For many years, the company has made it a priority to promote a healthy work-life balance for its employees. This led to cooperative agreements with several Munich daycare centers and kindergartens. In 2019, the Executive Board decided that the time had arrived for the next step: establishing the company's own on-site childcare facility. Working with several partners, including the works council and the real estate management subsidiary R&S Immobilienmanagement GmbH, a project team took on the renovation of the company premises. Following six months of construction work, a 1600 m2 site was set aside for the Rohde & Schwarz youngsters, including a spacious 820 m2 outdoor area.

To run the facility, Rohde & Schwarz selected the Munich based AWO, which has been actively engaged in all areas of social work for over 100 years and already operates more than 20 company daycare centers. AWO recruited 10 new childcare staff for the Rohde & Schwarz "Haus der Kinder". Rohde & Schwarz was won over by AWO's guiding principles and pedagogical concept and many shared values such as personal freedom and supporting the growth of individual talents. The "Haus der Kinder" will especially support bilingualism and familiarity with technology.

Holger Schötz, Executive Vice President Human Resources at Rohde & Schwarz: "It is very important to us for our employees to know that their children are receiving the best possible care so that they can do their job with complete peace of mind. With the refurbishment of the facilities in Friedenstrasse and a highly qualified organization to run the center, we can now provide our colleagues with the best possible support – not only in Munich, but at many of our other locations, too. Just in May of this year, for example, we also opened an on-site daycare center at our location in Vimperk in the Czech Republic."

Christine Albiez, a member of the AWO management team in the child daycare section, is delighted with the continuation of her organization's cooperation with the Munich-based company: "Rohde & Schwarz is a partner who fully understands the importance we place on participation as a quality benchmark. We're delighted to have the opportunity to make our longstanding experience and extensive expertise in childcare available to benefit the employees of Rohde & Schwarz. And if we can take in more groups and children next year, Friedenstrasse will be livelier than ever before."

The official opening ceremony will take place at a later date at an internal company event with a very small number of people in attendance.
