LabVIEW™ SNMP Programming for the R&S®DVM, R&S®DVQ and R&S®ETX-T Made Easy With the Viodia™ SNMP Toolkit

In the T&M world, instrument remote control over SNMP (simple network management protocol) lives in the shadow of IEEE/GPIB (general purpose interface bus) based remote control, and only a handful of the T&M equipment available worldwide supports the protocol. It is therefore no surprise that for most T&M engineers familiar with text-based commands over IEEE/GPIB (and lately LAN), the SNMP protocol seems a bit odd and to some even complex at first. The SNMP Toolkit for LabVIEW™ from Viodia™ Inc. can save a considerable amount of development time and furthermore helps programmers to overcome the initial complexities of SNMP programming.

SNMP Example: DVM Management Center Monitoring in a Broadcast Network

The simple network management protocol (SNMP) can be used in a wide range of applications, as described in Rohde & Schwarz Application Note 7BM65 “The Simple Network Management Protocol: Remote Controlling for Monitoring Devices“. In particular, the option of centrally managing monitoring sensors – such as the R&S DVM for RF and baseband signals in digital broadcasting – shows the potential of this technology. However, the protocol alone is not enough to achieve this management functionality. Specialized management applications are needed that carry out the SNMP requests and display the results graphically. This application note and the associated SNMP example application will show how the R&S DVM family can be used for this type of application. Rohde & Schwarz customers can use the included source code (programming language: C#) to make the modifications needed for their own situations.

Simple Network Management Protocol - Remote Controlling for Monitoring Devices

An operator of a network of terrestrial transmitter stations wants to have the most cost-effective means of monitoring the network's numerous transmitter sites from a main monitoring center. Modern error sensors such as the R&S DVM50/100 and the R&S ETX-T are used for diverse monitoring functions at the individual transmitter sites as well as to transmit monitoring status to the main monitoring center. These error sensors have a function-rich SNMP agent designed specifically for this purpose. Simple network management protocol (SNMP). Despite the 'simple' in the protocol name, some users are still afraid to use it for remote control and monitoring. This Application Note therefore provides a user-friendly and practical look at, for example, how the monitoring functions via SNMP can be used for the R&S DVM. The following sections provide a brief look at the SNMP protocol, the R&S DVM/ETX implementation, and useful tools for working with SNMP. A description of how SNMP can be linked to various development environments (C++, C#, Java) is also provided.

DVB-H Measurements with the R&S®DVM Basics and Application

The DVB-H standard is a specification for bringing television broadcast services to handheld receivers. In order to save battery power, data for a specific service is transmitted in short bursts. This type of transmission utilizes special techniques within the transport stream. The R&S DVM offers a wide range of functions to analyze the characteristics of the DVB-H transport stream. This document describes the characteristics of the DVB-H transport stream and shows how the R&S DVM can be used for efficient analysis in research and development, production, and broadcasting.

Comprehensive PCR Analysis - Using the R&S®DVM Family from Rohde & Schwarz R&S®DVM50/DVM100/DVM120/DVM400

When MPEG-2 transport streams are transmitted, the program clock reference PCR is transmitted as a time reference in the receiver. A sufficiently accurate and correctly received PCR is a precondition for correct data display in the receiver. This Application Note provides an overview of definitions, functions and use of the PCR. It also explains the recommended measurements of the current measurement guidelines and offers detailed instructions on how to use the PCR measurement functions of the R&S DVM family.

Extracting Video Elementary Streams Using the R&S®DVM 50/100/400

This Application Note describes two easy ways of extracting the video content of MPEG-2 transport streams and storing it as video elementary streams. These elementary streams can later be used to generate customized MPEG-2 transport streams by means of the Advanced Stream Combiner R&S DVASC application.

Buffer Analysis MPEG-2 TS Analysis & Monitoring

The new buffer analysis feature was introduced with firmware version 2.80 for the R&S DVM family. This application note describes this feature and explains how it represents a valuable asset to your daily business operations This application note first provides background information and then explains how monitoring and measurement have been implemented in the R&S DVM family.

Converting DHEI (DigiCable Headend Expansion Interface) to ASI Using WOOSHCOM® Adapter 3010

This application note discusses the use of the WOOSHCOM® DHEI output interface adapter (model 3010), which converts the transport stream from DHEI format into DVB-ASI. Further processing and analysis of the transport stream signal then becomes available with any of the Rohde & Schwarz Test & Measurement instruments. It also describes how to extract an unencrypted transport streams out of a Motorola IRT.
