KDI case study video: Increasing security at Norwegian prisons

Norway has a capacity of just over 3600 cells in 34 prison units with 57 prisons. Almost 70% of these are high-security. To address the vulnerability of access and entry points and reduce the flow of prohibited items (such as drugs, phones, and weapons), the Norwegian Correctional Service (KDI) required a highly effective security solution.

The Rohde & Schwarz QPS201 was chosen for a nationwide security scanning project. The QPS201 uses safe, extremely low-power millimeterwave radio frequency technology and advanced artificial intelligence methods to accurately detect concealed objects of any material. It was selected due to its very high detection rate and low false alarm rate as well as its high resolution, which reliably detects small items such as SIM cards or razor blades.

For prison personnel, the QPS201 serves as an efficient tool for maintaining high security. The inobtrusive scanning experience ensures a more dignified experience for both the inmates and visitors.

Although the QPS201 was originally designed for airports, Rohde & Schwarz and the KDI have collaborated to develop the QPS201 further so that it better suits the specific requirements of a correctional environment.
