How can I use DOS GPIB Programs under modern Windows Systems?

Question

I have a DOS program which remote-controls a device via GPIB bus and I have a PC with WindowsXP. The program does not find my National Instruments GPIB card. What can I do?

Answer

The National Instruments GPIB driver already installs the necessary commands in the file

C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\CONFIG.NT

The commands are as follows:

REM *** To run DOS GPIB applications, uncomment the

REM *** following line

REM device=C:\PROGRA~1\NATION~1\NI-488.2\DOSWIN16\Gpib-nt.com

The only thing you have to do is to uncomment the third line.
