Rohde & Schwarz fulfills the certification entry criteria (CEC) for a greatly increased number of the Global Certification Forum's (GCF) work items (WI) and PCS Type Certification Review Board (PTCRB) requests for 5G FR1 RF conformance testing. Thanks to 572 new GCF validations and 215 new PTCRB validations for the R&S TS8980FTA 3A, the updated version of the leading RF test system R&S TS8980 can now perform a broad range of 5G device certification tests.

The Global Certification Forum GCF and PTCRB certification organization have accepted first test case validations in various FR1 and LTE band combinations using the new 5G RF conformance test system R&S TS8980FTA-3A from Rohde & Schwarz. As demand for 5G NR device testing grows, PCTEST with Element expands its test capabilities to include 5G FR1 and FR2 conformance and network operator testing.

Using the R&S®TS8980 RF test system up to two carriers in the unlicensed spectrum above 5 GHz can be aggregated to the first carrier in a licensed spectrum. The test cases have been implemented in line with the LTE-U test specification.

LTE is under continuous development. Release 10 (LTE-Advanced) introduced carrier aggregation (CA) as the primary enhancement. Releases 11 and 12 add several new components to LTE. Some are enhancements to existing features (such as improvements to CA), while others are completely new concepts, such as coordinated multipoint (CoMP).This application note summarizes the Rohde & Schwarz test solutions for LTE-Advanced according to Releases 11 and 12 using vector signal generators, signal and spectrum analyzers and the wideband radio communication tester.

The Global Certification Forum (GCF) has approved the first two radio ressource management (RRM) conformance test cases for 5G FR2 frequencies, implemented on the R&S TS-RRM-NR 5G RRM conformance test system from Rohde & Schwarz. The test cases have been validated in seven FR2 and LTE band combinations. With this success, Rohde & Schwarz is leading the way in validated test cases for the technically challenging FR2 mmWave frequency bands.

Rohde & Schwarz submitted its latest 5G NR protocol conformance test cases to the Global Certification Forum (GCF) at the GCF CAG#72 meeting in October 2022 and successfully passed verification. The company now has over 500 GCF-certified protocol conformance test cases, illustrating the leadership of Rohde & Schwarz in 5G NR protocol conformance testing.

The R&S TS-RRM-NR 5G conformance test system from Rohde & Schwarz is the first test platform to achieve test platform approval criteria (TPAC) from the GCF certification organization for 5G radio resource management (RRM) at FR2 frequencies. As a consequence, the first RRM conformance FR2 work items have reached “active” status, making them mandatory for mobile device certification. RRM FR2 test cases with one and two angles of arrival (1xAoA and 2xAoA) have been validated in multiple FR2 EN-DC band combinations.

With the new R&S ATS1000 all-in-one antenna test system, active and passive antennas as well as transceivers for future fifth generation (5G) mobile networks can be tested in a compact, moveable shielded RF test chamber. This enables far-field antenna characterizations and initial RF measurements for 3GPP 5G NR in the millimeter wavelength range.
