Soho post industry converges on Jigsaw24 for Blue Experts Lounge

The Jigsaw24 event is part of the Blue Experts Lounge tour run by Rohde & Schwarz and travelling across the world throughout the next year. The first three events were held in the UK this week, including in Manchester, London and Glasgow.

Among the speakers at the Jigsaw24 event were Rupert Watson, Media & Entertainment sales director, Jigsaw24, Erik Dobberkau, product manager for R&S Clipster, Rohde & Schwarz, Tomasz Witkowski, senior workflow engineer, Sundog Media Toolkit, and Jack Watts, head of technology and development, Deluxe Group. Dobberkau, Witkowski and Watts all participate in the SMPTE standards committee looking at IMF standards and uses.

The group discussed the IMF implications for delivering different versions of a production to Netflix and other distribution platforms in different languages and for different territories. The R&S Clipster is the de facto go-to solution for managing high-quality file based and package based workflows, which are becoming increasingly important for broadcast.

Kevin Salvidge, European regional development manager, Leader Electronics, and Phil Crawley, chief engineer, Jigsaw24, also gave a detailed analysis of HDR standards, including how HDR10 is becoming omnipresent, with the HLG standard from the BBC/NHK optimised for broadcast, while Dolby Vision is the premium format and widely used for cinema.

Blue Expert Lounge events will continue to be held throughout the year, helping the industry understand and take control of the evolving high end production workflows.
