Clipster shines at Munich film festival

Post specialist Zweib partnered Rohde & Schwarz to provide mastering services to the 2017 Filmfest München film festival.

The 35th international Filmfest München, which ended on 1st July 2017 with the German premiere of Lone Scherfig’s latest movie, Their Finest, used zweiB and Rohde & Schwarz to manage the digital cinema packages of selected movies.

zweiB has been using our products successfully for years to implement impressive projects. That's why we were especially pleased to work with them as partners of the Munich film festival.

Film premieres

The Filmfest München was first held in 1983. It is the second largest film festival in Germany (after the Berlin Film Festival) with around 80,000 visitors and 460 shows. Every year more than 2,000 German and international media professionals from the film, television and video industry as well as more than 500 journalists are accredited.

For nine days at the end of June, the festival presents around 200 of the best feature and documentary films from all over the world.

Checking DCP files

With the majority of films delivered as digital cinema packages (DCP), but in a large qualitative bandwidth, a Clipster workstation was used to check the delivered files and to record metadata. This process ensured that the correct picture and sound was transmitted to viewers in the cinema. Another Clipster was used as a back-up, to bridge bottlenecks and speed up the workflow.

Since the workstation supports a variety of formats, already digitised films were quickly converted and processed. Clipster also generated high-quality DCPs – efficiently and faster than in real time. Thanks to the preview function and DCI validation tools, the team at the festival could immediately see the finished DCPs as well as being able to check the quality.
