Rohde & Schwarz Cybersecurity and Utimaco offer hardware-based security in the cloud

The two companies offer hardware-based cloud security by combining R&S®Trusted Gate by IT security expert Rohde & Schwarz Cybersecurity with the hardware-based high security appliance by Utimaco. From now on, a hardware security module can separately generate cryptographic material, thus ensuring compliance with the highest security requirements.

Munich, April 30, 2019 – The R&S Trusted Gate product family by Rohde & Schwarz Cybersecurity provides a flexible microservices structure for using containers or virtual machines. The user can decide whether services of the solution should run on-premises or in the cloud, thus holding full control over the desired level of security. In cooperation with Utimaco, R&S Trusted Gate is now expanding these possibilities by adding another option. For years, companies and authorities have used hardware security modules to securely manage encryption keys in their own data centers. These hardware appliances are designed and certified as tamper-proof and offer a high level of physical security. From now on, users of R&S Trusted Gate will be able to transmit their key server to the Utimaco High Security Module (HSM) connected to R&S Trusted Gate. Rohde & Schwarz Cybersecurity and Utimaco offer the user a maximum level of security by physically isolating the application from the key storage location.

Cryptographic material can be generated and stored for data encryption separately from the cloud service provider in a hardware security module by Utimaco, This allows for encrypting the original documents with the stream cipher encryption method. The strong encryption through symmetric and asymmetric methods ensures that only authorized persons or groups have access to the content. More and more companies and authorities migrate sensitive data and documents from their own servers to cloud environments. With R&S Trusted Gate, international cloud providers can also be used without having to forego the highest security requirements - even classified ones. With the integration of Utimaco HSM, customers now have a further option for additional security.

The R&S Trusted Gate product family by Rohde & Schwarz Cybersecurity is a cloud security solution that consistently implements a data-centric approach. R&S Trusted Gate can easily be implemented in storage systems of popular public clouds like Microsoft Azure, Google and AWS and in collaboration tools like Microsoft Office 365 and SharePoint, while guaranteeing maximum security and control. Legal requirements and compliance requirements can also easily be met in global cloud environments. R&S Trusted Gate runs transparently in existing applications without affecting work processes. A special search tool allows for a protected full-text search even in encrypted documents.
