Andreas Gierstorfer

Automotive EMC - New strategies to ensure robustness

Andreas Gierstorfer studied electrical engineering at the Munich University of Applied Sciences and graduated with a Master of Science degree. He then worked in the development of medical devices and was responsible, among other things, for EMC compliance. He has worked for BMW since 2016 and is responsible for EMC standardization and measurement technology. Furthermore, he represents the German national subcommittee for vehicle EMC in the ISO working group and is the chairman of the VDA EMC working group.

Lee Hill

Workshop (LIVE): EMI design and measurement tips - Where is the switch to switch off the noise after switching on your switch-mode power supply?

Lee Hill has over 30 years of experience providing hands-on hardware troubleshooting and design reviews to solve and prevent elusive regulatory and functional electrical noise problems. He is Founding Partner of SILENT Solutions LLC and GmbH, an electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and RF design, troubleshooting, and training firm established in 1992. Lee teaches EMC worldwide and is a member of adjunct faculty at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) and an EMC instructor at University of Oxford (England), He earned his MSEE in electromagnetics from the Missouri University of Science and Technology EMC Laboratory, where he studied under Dr.’s Tom Van Doren, Todd Hubing, and James Drewniak. Lee is the named inventor of three US patents for EMI control in electronic systems, and provides expert witness services for patent litigation.

Dimitrios Barakos

Dimitrios Barakos (1990) was born in Greece and has specialized in both Electrical Power Systems (MSc degree 2014, Technical University of Athens, Greece) and Electromagnetic Compatibility (MSc degree in Electrical Engineering 2017, Eindhoven University of Technology, the Netherlands). Since 2019, Dimitrios joined Comtest Engineering as R&D engineer at, where he is heavily involved in concept & development of various EMC and RF/Antenna test facilities (with a special focus on Reverberation Chambers).

EMC Risk management and design compliance for medical devices

Matt Nuernberg has been involved in Medical Device testing and compliance since 2009, working for various Medical Device companies in Minnesota (USA) and also the test labs themselves. He has an undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering and a Masters in Business Administration, but strives to spread the knowledge of doing compliance testing “early and often”. He currently is an R&D Manager at Boston Scientific in Maple Grove, MN, USA focusing on Sustaining & Compliance for their Interventional Cardiology business.

EMI Testing on Space Systems - Use of FFT based measuring receivers for more speed, more insight and better reliability

María Jiménez received 3-year degree in Telecommunication Engineering in 1997 and a bachelor in Telecommunication Engineering in 2017. She has been working in EMC topics since 1997. From 2007 she is in the EMC Area at INTA as EMC Test Engineer, performing EMC trials and developing and improving measurement procedures for military, industrial, civilian and aerospace areas. She is member of standardization groups at national and international level and she has participated in several research projects. Since 2022 is the responsible of INTA Notified Body for 2014/30/UE EMC Directive NB1866.

Steve Hayes

Understanding test facility accuracy and maintenance

Steve is the Technical Director of the Connected Technology and Mobility business unit of Element where he leads the alignment of labs and contributes to future strategy of the EMC, wireless and safety labs of Element from a global perspective.

Additionally Steve is a leading expert in regulatory approval for worldwide market access of Connected Devices including medical, automotive, consumer and IoT products and sits on a number of international and regional regulatory and standardisation forums using his 30+ years’ experience of the industry and running labs. Steve was recently recognized with the IEC 1906 award for his contributions to CISPR standards.

Automotie EMC - Ensuring compliance in real world scenarios

Asmir Hrnic studied electrical engineering at the technical University TUG in Graz Austria and graduated with a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering. He worked in the development of high-precision measurement devices, ensuring EMC compliance from a Firmware perspective. He works for AVL List GmbH since 2015 and is responsible for NVH & EMC test systems on component level.
