Rohde & Schwarz mobile network testing solutions are compatible now with commercially available 5G mobile phones

After extensive pre-commercial trials, 5G NR is now moving to the deployment phase. The true test that 5G is delivering the required Quality of Experience (QoE) to subscribers is to use test solutions running on and with real commercial 5G devices. Operators wishing to test the quality and performance of 5G NR mobile networks using commercially available UEs including the Samsung S10 5G can do so now using Rohde & Schwarz mobile network testing solutions such as the R&S®QualiPoc Android smartphone-based optimizer, R&S®ROMES4 universal network measurement software or R&S®SmartBenchmarker network benchmarking software. This can be realized using a QualiPoc smartphone on its own or combined with a scanning receiver such as the TSMx6 or full walk test and drive test systems such as the Freerider 4 backpack or Benchmarker II.

5G NR quality and performance metrics from a user perspective using commercial smartphones can be acquired using the R&S®QualiPoc Android smartphone-based RF optimization and service quality assessment solution. The range of tests covers full video and App testing using a rooted phone to IP and RF trace data using a commercial off the shelf (COTS) device with open diagnostic ports and additional hardware from R&S, to RF and data testing with a standard COTS phone.

Critical 5G NR UE-based measurements such as data performance KPIs, serving cell information, signalling and RF metrics using commercially available UEs such as the Samsung S10 5G, Xiaomi Mi Mix 3, Oppo Reno 5G and the LG V50 ThinQ can be conducted using R&S®ROMES4 universal software platform for network engineering, optimization and troubleshooting supports. ROMES4 is compatible with either rooted phones or COTS UEs with open LTE and 5G diagnostic ports.

R&S®SmartBenchmarker web-based benchmarking campaign control software and R&S®SmartAnalytics QoE analysis software are fully compatible with the 5G capabilities of data acquisition hardware such as Benchmarker II, Freerider 4 and Benchmarker2Go; enabling 5G optimization and benchmarking campaigns to be planned, manager and executed whenever required.

The R&S®Freerider 4 backpack system for network optimization, benchmarking and analysis supports the range of R&S mobile network testing solutions (QualiPoc, ROMES4 and SmartBenchmarker) and is compatible with 5G UEs. It can accommodate up to 12 UEs and 2 scanners or 8 UEs and 4 scanners to measure 4x4 MIMO and, with the addition of a downconverter, can cover the 28GHz 5G NR band.
