German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) grants approval for R&S®Trusted Mobile by Rohde & Schwarz Cybersecurity

The German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) grants approval for classification level VS-NfD (Restricted), NATO Restricted and EU Restricted (national) for the mobile security solution from IT security expert Rohde & Schwarz Cybersecurity. R&S Trusted Mobile is currently the only available mobile communications solution that has VS-NfD (Restricted) and NATO Restricted approval. The product enables users to work securely in a mobile environment while meeting the high security requirements of German federal authorities.without legal uncertainties.

Mobile devices such as smartphones have become an indispensable part of our private and professional lives. In addition, mobile devices are becoming increasingly important for large-scale use in companies and public authorities. However, the use of mobile devices is associated with considerable security risks. For example, sensitive data can be read on the smartphone, and the security mechanisms provided by the devices do not offer sufficient protection for restricted data.

With R&S Trusted Mobile, Rohde & Schwarz Cybersecurity provides a hardened Android platform for smartphones that creates the prerequisites for the secure use of the devices in a classified information environment. It is based on a specially developed security core that protects against attacks such as zero-day exploits through additional security mechanisms, security services and fine-grained access rules. R&S Trusted Mobile gains additional security by strictly separating an open and a restricted area. This separation also allows secure access to applications from the restricted area: via a VPN tunnel, users can access organizational resources such as email, contacts, calendar and intranet and exchange data. Access to external websites is also possible in the restricted area via the organizational firewall, which can filter out dangerous content. By securely encrypting all data exchanged between the smartphone and the organizational network, all data is protected against unauthorized access. At the same time, however, the special architecture of R&S Trusted Mobile ensures that the device remains flexible: In the open area, users can install any apps they like, while the secure area remains unaffected, thus preventing any impact on the security of the organization network.

With BSI approval, Rohde & Schwarz Cybersecurity is opening up the use of the mobile security solution R&S Trusted Mobile to new groups of users from public authorities and enterprises that require a highly secure and practicable solution for processing national and international, strictly confidential data.
