5G NR Base Station Transmitter Tests

3GPP defines the Radio Frequency (RF) conformance test methods and requirements for 5G NR Base Stations (BS) in the technical specifications TS 38.141. This application note describes how all mandatory RF transmitter tests (TS 38.141-1, chapter 6), according to Release 16, can be performed quickly and conveniently with signal or spectrum analyzers from Rohde & Schwarz by either choosing manual operation or a remote control approach. Moreover, some test cases require additional signal generation equipment from Rohde & Schwarz.In Addition, a new Python software library comes with this application note to enable the remote control approach of base station testing. This example requires the RsInstrument module which can be found on pypi.org or installed via 'pip' and is provided as is.

With the R&S PyCharm1 plugin there exists an easy-to-use helper application which highly simplifies the first steps to start script based GNSS testing.Several GNSS use cases of R&S vector signal generators require much repetitive set-up and configuration steps, where human errors may occur. To mitigate these errors Python scripts communicating over SCPI interface may be used to automate the procedures. On the other hand looking up the SCPI-commands one-by-one can be difficult and time-consuming. For an improved user experience JetBrains PyCharm, the RsInstrument Python Module and the R&S Instrument Control PyCharm Plugin may be used to highly simplify the script writing process.This Application Note shows how to install the necessary software, connect to an R&S generator and use the Instrument Control PyCharm Plugin to easily generate user defined Python scripts.

Next Generation eCall Conformance Testing

Next Generation Emergency Call (NG eCall) is a extension of eCall, a service provided in Europe with the goal of reducing response times for accidents or other emergencies on the roadways. This application note briefly describes the technology behind NG eCall and presents conformance tests for NG eCall using the R&S®CMW500 RF tester and either the R&S®SMBV100B or the R&S®SMW200A vector signal generator. Using Power Sensors with Signal Generators

This application note addresses the diverse possibilities of interoperability between Rohde & Schwarz power sensors and Rohde & Schwarz signal generators. All current and many legacy Rohde & Schwarz signal generators offer the capability of directly connecting power sensors. This enables power measurements without the need of a base unit or separate PC to display the readings.
