The Internet of Things (IoT) is taking shape. Manufacturers who want to integrate wireless modules into their products now face completely new test requirements. US's largest wireless network operator is the first network operator to publish specific test plans for IoT integrators. In response, Rohde & Schwarz announces the availability of its new R&S TS 290 IoT carrier acceptance test system, which is based on these test plans. The only test solution of its kind, it offers RF, protocol and performance test cases in a single box.

At MWC 2019, CommSolid (a Goodix company) will present an IoT reference design integrating its NB-IoT and Bluetooth® SOCs. The manufacturer uses the R&S CMW290 IoT radio communication testers for RF and functional testing of both transmission methods. At Embedded World 2019 in Nuremberg, which takes place in parallel to MWC in Barcelona, Rohde & Schwarz will demonstrate the realistic measurements that make this device solution possible.

Rohde & Schwarz has announced a collaboration with mobile test specialist COMPRION that gives telecommunication solution providers a method for testing remote SIM provisioning (RSP) of embedded UICCs (eSIMs) required for Industry 4.0 and connected car applications. The test solution is based on the COMPRION eUICC Profile Manager and the R&S CMW500 mobile communication tester or R&S CMW290 functional radio communication tester for cellular network simulation. For the certification process of the ERA-GLONASS based eCall system, RSP will be mandatory from 2020 onwards.

Rohde & Schwarz and Goodix (CommSolid) are first to demonstrate exhaustive test functions for the newly introduced NB-IoT wake up signal (NWUS), the latest 3GPP Release 15 feature for NB-IoT devices to further reduce power consumption. For NB-IoT long-term monitoring applications, this wake up signal can be leveraged to enable either far longer battery life without upgrading the battery, or as a way to reduce battery size while retaining the device’s service life.
