Rohde & Schwarz and VIAVI jointly verify NEC O-RU design at O-RAN Global PlugFest Fall 2023 in JapanAt the recent O-RAN ALLIANCE Global PlugFest Fall 2023 at the Japan Open Testing and Integration Center (OTIC) hosted by Rakuten Mobile, Rohde & Schwarz and VIAVI Solutions have presented their integrated solution for automated conformance testing of O-RAN Radio Units (O-RUs). With their joint test solution, which combines both companies’ industry-leading capabilities, they performed the automated verification of a commercial O-RU provided by NEC according to both O-RAN and 3GPP pre-conformance specifications.

Rohde & Schwarz and IEMN collaborate on 6G THz by bringing together electronic and photonic technologiesThe Institute of Electronics, Microelectronics and Nanotechnology (IEMN, Lille, France) and Rohde & Schwarz have expanded their collaboration to research THz communications that utilize photonic technologies. In a recent demonstration, IEMN reached a milestone when researchers achieved generated a 300 GHz bidirectional link over an outdoor distance of 645 m for use in future 6G backhauling scenarios. The R&S SMA100B microwave signal generator from Rohde & Schwarz was a crucial component in the performance test setup. The R&S SMA100B provides an ultra-low phase noise signal that helps accelerate THz communications research and development to ready it for industrialization.

Unique Rohde & Schwarz 170 GHz power sensors ease use and traceability in the D-bandRohde & Schwarz is launching the new R&S NRP170TWG(N) thermal power sensor for precise power level measurements in the D-band. It is the only RF power sensor on the market that offers full traceability to national metrology institutes (NMI) in the frequency range from 110 GHz to 170 GHz, an important prerequisite for commercializing the frequency band. The R&S NRP170TWG(N) hardware is designed to reduce measurement noise and drift, while remaining very accurate and easy to use. The sensors are fully calibrated plug & play devices that can be easily integrated into any measurement setup with a USB or LAN connection.
