Recently named by Newsweek as one of the Best American Mid-Sized Workplaces in 2026, Rohde & Schwarz is seeking an experienced Engineering Service Transition Manager for our project engineering organization to support our growing project and program teams. The work location for this position is Columbia, MD. The Engineering-to-Service Transition Manager is responsible for establishing and managing the structured transition of systems, projects, and engineering activities into the Service organization. This role bridges Engineering and Service to ensure that systems are technically, operationally, and organizationally ready for long-term support. The position will develop the processes, governance, documentation, knowledge-transfer practices, and readiness criteria necessary to create a scalable and repeatable transition model while ensuring appropriate Engineering support remains available during and after handover.

Your tasks

  • Own the Engineering-to-Service transition process for system engineering projects, upgrades, and deployments, ensuring a structured and successful handover to Service.
  • Establish and implement a standardized transition and service-readiness process, including plans, milestones, acceptance criteria, and required deliverables.
  • Serve as the primary interface between Engineering, Service, Program Management, and Operations throughout the transition lifecycle.
  • Lead Service Readiness Reviews and drive closure of technical, documentation, training, tooling, and operational gaps prior to handover.
  • Coordinate the transfer of system knowledge, configurations, technical documentation, maintenance procedures, open issues, and lessons learned to Service.
  • Ensure Service teams are prepared to independently support maintenance, upgrades, troubleshooting, go-backs, and customer support.
  • Establish clear Engineering/Service ownership and escalation paths for issues requiring Engineering support after transition.
  • Drive continuous improvement by incorporating Service feedback and post-deployment lessons learned into future system engineering, design, and project execution.

Your qualifications

  • Develop transition metrics and reporting to measure readiness, handover quality, post-deployment issues, and ongoing Engineering support requirements.
  • Bachelor’s degree in EE, CS or related discipline, with a desired MS degree in Engineering or Operations Management
  • 5+ years of experience in system engineering, project/program management, service delivery, or a related technical role
  • Experience transitioning complex technical systems from engineering into service organizations
  • Strong understanding of a system lifecycle, including deployment, maintenance, upgrades, troubleshooting and service support ticketing
  • Excellent written and verbal communication in English; ability to author clear, audit‑ready documentation.
  • Experience developing and implementing processes, readiness and handover criteria methods.
  • Experience with technical documentation, knowledge transfer, training and change management
  • Good communication and customer interface skills (verbal and written).
  • Ability to operate with considerable autonomy and minimal supervision.
  • Ability to travel throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe, up to 30%.
  • In order to be considered, candidates must reside in the US and be a US citizen capable of receiving a US Government security clearance or Public Trust

The total compensation for this position is $120K-$160K. Total compensation includes base salary, variable pay (when applicable) plus benefits. The range is determined by the position, geographic location and level. Individual pay within the range is determined by several factors including location, education or training, relevant work history, sales incentive structure and job-related skills.
